Rye Playland announces plans to scale back rides

Rye Playland, the 1920s-era amusement park owned by Westchester County, would get a complete makeover under a proposed development that emphasizes year-round activities and more green space, county officials announced Thursday. Specifically, the plan calls for a great lawn overlooking Long Island Sound, new ball fields and a field house, a mini-water park, an outdoor winter ice rink and renovation of the indoor rink, new restaurants and a year-round event space for weddings and conferences. The historic amusement rides would stay, but some newer rides would be retired.
