Does anyone know how big this place is?
Themeparksonline.com links to news items that describe the park's financial trouble. One of their options it says is to sellout. Who would buy it? I say not Six Flags (they already have two parks in the state) not Cedar Fair (just doesn't seem like their kind of place) but what about SDC or Kennywood? Or could this historic park face closing? It's kind of interesting that Marriot operated it for some time. It does draw 1 million visitors per year.

What is the update on their dark ride? Last year it had been gutted and was being re-furbished for this season I believe.
Rye is a great little park. Very nostalgic, very traditional, very historic. Although I think the steel coaster (Hurricane??) is a lawsuit waiting to happen, the rides are fun and good for a small park.. However the gems here are the things many enthusiasts take for granted.... the carousel and the derby.... one of only 3 in existance now I believe.
It would indeed be a shame to see it close. Honestly, I would love to see the state step in and mark it as a historical landmark ala Coney Island. Then it could operate, at least partially, with a tax break. Perhaps allieviating some of the financial struggle.

Actually, Shaggy, I quote Playland's web page: (http://www.ryeplayland.org/)
Dedicated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987, Playland has provided family fun since 1928.
If this season is anything like opening day, attendance should be at an all time high this year. Hopefully, a year of high attendance will reduce their money troubles. And Shaggy, when I was at Playland for opening day, the refurbished Zombie Castle was open, but the Old Mill that was refurbished by Sally was closed for the day. The ride entrance looked totally different, and I suspect the ride will have a dramatically different feel even though it is in the same structure. I believe the ride is open now, even though I cannot be 100 percent sure until I go again in a couple of weeks.
Wow! Thanks for the correction. I am estatic that it IS a Historic Landmark. But doesn't that mean that it cannot be demolished or closed? I thought that basically when something got labelled a Historic landmark that it is supported finacially by either the state or National Government so that it can stay afloat and not fall into disrepair or a poor financial state.
Or am I wrong? Which is highly likely.

Yes Shaggy, the park is run by Wstchester County, and receives all of its founding from the county.
Also this park will not close down. As far as i know, the park is not in financial trouble. it is just that they dont have the money to expand and are asking the county for more. The park has great attendance, and is a great place in th community.
