Rollercoaster.com

I discovered the fate of rollercoaster.com:
http://www.greatdomains.com/domains/details.asp?ListingID=107726
And yes, it was submitted to news.

That's too bad, but that seems a whale of an asking price. Then again, as I don't own any domains, I wouldn't really know how valuable they can be!

rollercoaster.com was part of the ThrillRide! family until it was all closed up.

That was the bid Jim Serio was looking for originally. That's not the current sell.

I miss the really old www.rollercoaster.com site (www.worldofrollercoasters.com) which some other person owned. Thrill ride just bought it and they died, which is sad. I hope they could bring the orginal site back.
i went to www.rollercoaster.com and it said that woc will be returning soon.

Domain names are pretty worthless if you ask me, and this is coming from someone who sold popworld.com for $100,000. The fact is, you'll get a lot of incidental traffic from a domain name, but if your content sucks or is dated (and the old WoC was bordering on ancient), people have no reason to come back.

If you're wondering, rollercoaster.com is currently registered to Jim Serio, the original WoC guy. The record is updated August 3, so I'm assuming at some point that it was under Bob Coker's name (the ThrillRide guy) and transferred back to him.

Well I bet that 100,000 dollars went to the bills of running these sites, hosting for Coasterbuzz and Guidetothepoint costs a lot of money.

But I also bet some of that money went to other things, heh. ;)

42,000 doesn't suprise me. I was in the bidding wars very very early in this and as soon as they gave an estimate of 40,000 I was gone. No way am I going to spend more then 1G for a domain.
