Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Soaked! expansion hits stores

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The first expansion pack for the PC game Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is now available in U.S. stores. Soaked! adds a number of new rides, focusing on water park slides and pools. RCT 3 has received mediocre reviews in the CoasterBuzz forums due to serious performance issues on even the best hardware, as well as game play issues.

Does anybody play this game anymore? I tried for 2 days and gave up...

It's only now just coming out? With all the hype, I would have thunk it had been out for months by now. ;)

Now Jeffrey, that's because you have no patience. ;)

Eric - who doesn't even own the third installment, and who still plays number two without the Atari expansions.

I've been holding off purchasing RCT3 until it comes down in price... or until there is a package available that bundles "Soaked" with the original game for $40 or less. I have a relatively new computer (3.2 GHz processor - 1 Gig of Ram - good graphics card), so the demo seems to run fine, but I'm hoping this expansion fixes some of the technical issues that people complained about when the game was released last fall.

If any of you notice any difference, please post your feedback here or in the RCT forum.

RCT is the only thing I miss after switching to Apple. :(
I like this expansion pack. Clever and good additions, no "snake trains" or "buses on rails" like in RCT2. No...we get great stuff such as new coasters, rides, bigger river rapids, great waterparks, etc.
And a new lighting system, underwater worlds, tunnels, etc.

It's also better technical wise...the game runs much smoother, it all loads faster and it has improvements on alot of existing rides too.

Worth getting !

^ ummmmm what type of system are you using a MainFrame because im still having the same problems with this Soaked that i had with the RCT3. When you zoom in on the peeps my PC almost completely stops, it wasn't that bad in RCT3. It takes FOREVER to load and thats just with a blank sandbox mode, when you build things it takes even longer. Yes they added a few new rides/water park rides, the themeing IMO still leaves alot to be desired. The rating system still sucks, for instance they put in this new Thrill swing ride yet the excitement rating is only 2+ WTF it's suppose to be a thrill ride not one of the gentle ride.

Anyways IMO this game still has alot of problems and IMO it is not worth spending money for this expansion pack. It seams like the crap they added should have been included in the original RCT3 when it was first released.

Soaked! is a great expansion. The little nuances it adds make it seem like a different game. There is so much more you can add that make the environment more real. For example, the fog and smoke effects, ability to add a flame, the nice little touches in the pool creator (like deck side lighting, ladders for the pools, etc.) My big complaint with the new stuff is that it is awkward adding paths to the pools and it took me way too long to figure out how to connect new lazy river to the pool. Admittedly, it was very late and I did'nt read the booklet. I agree that the whole thing loads faster and runs a little more smoothly. On my AMD Athlon 2000 and ATI All in Wonder 9200, it runs great. But, it always has, just now it runs better.

I also agree that most of the pack (like those in the original) should have been included in the initial release (like tunnels!) But this is a worthwhile addition nonetheless.

We get:

- Tunnels

- Hersheypark's Kissing Tower

- Hersheypark's Roller Soaker

- A Hershey's Chocolate merchandise stand

- A Reeses Peanut Buttercup ride

- A few more flats

- Oh yeah, and all the water stuff...

Good enough for me. I'm pleased.
