The preview for the news shows roller coasters in the program.
Something like -
"They're tall, they're fast, but scientists say some new high-tech thrill rides can be deadly."
Looks like more media bashing of coasters.
-----------------
Welcome back riders, how was your ride...Enjoy your day, here at Cedar Point, America's roller coast.
Well that was insightful - NOT!
I knew it, they talked about the lady that had the brain anyerysm on Goliath.
The spokesman guy for the Amusement Park Industry talked about the thousands of kids who got hurt and the 2 who died on those little scooter thingers and why doesn't the government investigate and regulate those.
They are just looking to spoil our fun yet again.
-----------------
The report was very informative...but it left out some crucial details.
Yes, it mentioned the girl from Goliath, and some strong rhetoric from the family and lawyers...and surprisingly, it DID mention that the woman never knew she had the aneurysm. Of course, the story never explicitly mentioned that it was a pre-existing condition, nor that the rupture could've been triggered by other activities BESIDES roller coasters...
Then they mentioned that you sustain forces greater than those experienced on the space shuttle. They forgot to mention that these forces are sustained for a fraction of a second at a time...
They then argued that the rides feature swift changes in direction that could cause whiplash. And another man mentioned that rides should post that these rides could be hazardous or dangerous. But they forgot to mention the THOUSANDS OF WARNING SIGNS in big bold letters like that posted throughout the queues.
Then everyone's favorite representative presented his argument for seeking data in order to attempt to link deaths and brain injuries to coasters. But they forgot to mention that over 27,000 children were injured and 2 died from using SCOOTERS last year...
Oh wait, never mind. They DID mention that. The IAAPA president mentioned that.
All in all, though, an informative segment. Lots of medical discussion...and lots of doctors, too -- oh wait...no...they were LAWYERS. I don't remember seeing ANY doctors, actually...
Unfortunately, a Bill Linkenheimer quote and that above statement were the only pro-coaster debaters on the segment. It's kind of sad that CBS is THAT biased, but I've heard about it before...just never suspected it so much before now. Even my mom, who hates coasters, had to laugh at the way they mangled statistics and quantitative evidence. Move along, people...there's nothing more to see here.

Thats funny. My mom was like yelling at me when I was saying that it was a bunch of crap what they were talking about and that roller coasters are safe. DRIVING A CAR IS LIKE 10 MILLION TIMES AS DANGEROUS! She was like, "your not looking at both sides of the argument." And I was like, "No mom, they are giving us false statistics and warnings that have almost no scientific proof. Not to mention that Goliath had nothing to do with the death of the woman who was on it, it was just the wrong place at the wrong time.

It was only a fantasy, the wall was too high, as you can see, no matter how he tried he could not break free, and the worms ate into his brain.- Pink Floyd "Hey You"
Whoa fella...three posts that can easily be condensed into one post...and could be much more eloquent, as well.
But anywho...I found it quite humorous that the IAAPA president demanded a federal inquiry into scooter regulation. It seemed absurd for him to say, yet given the statistics, that equally as ridiculous as coaster regulation.
When I first saw the teaser, I screamed out, "They're wrong!" And I was accused by my father as making a rash statement. He then questioned me on how many people attend amusement parks per year...when I was able to respond "300 million," the discussion ended. Any logical thinkers (and even the illogical ones) can realize that this argument is beyond moot.
