Roller coasters & amusement parks in movies

In the 1997 Movie "Titanic", there are photos of "Rose" (right at the end) as a 20-something riding a horse on a beach with a Coaster behind her. It looked like Kate Wincilets (SP) face was Photoshopped on an already-existing picture.

I can't tell what it was, even if it is real

You forgot "Close Encounters of the 4th Kind", filmed in 2004 at Cedar Point. Quite possibly the greatest movie of all time, because I'm an extra in it (sarcasm). :) http://www.ce4kthemovie.com/ *** Edited 1/19/2006 7:27:17 AM UTC by CP Chris***

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

RGB, Riding the Bullet amusement park/coaster scene was shot at the Pacific National Exhibition grounds...

The park in Getting Even With Dad is PGA. They ride Top Gun and a few other rides. Also, I'm not sure whether anyone has mentioned Thrill, which has a lot of Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk footage.

In addition, although no coasters or rides are running, parts at the beginning of Spy Kids 2 were filmed at SFoT. You can see parts of Titan, Batman, and Flashback, plus a few others that I can't remember. *** Edited 1/19/2006 2:03:17 PM UTC by Ben Nelson***

Schwarzkopf shuttle loops...The most possible fun in 36 seconds.

Fatal Attraction has scenes on the Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland in Rye, NY.

There was a movie called "My Life" where Micheal Keaton plays a terminally ill cancer patient who makes a video for his unborn child. One of the things he did as part of his last dying wish items, was to ride some wooden roller coaster. It featured very prominately in the movie, even to the point that at the end of the movie, where he dies, he is riding the coaster...

Certain victory.

The 3 Ninjas High Noon was filmed at least partly at Six Flags Elitch Gardens.
The funny part about Evel Knievel is those shots showing cedar point were for a stunt he performed in the 70's (maybe 80's) just outside Kings Island. And yet, Mantis and Millenium are VERY obvious. I don't remember what else was there as I havent' seen it since it premiered.

Thanks for the input and I'll be looking into some of those movies.

There's the new Final Destination 3 that I don't know if it has been released yet.

For some reason I thought riding the bullet was at Playland in Vancouver. I could be wrong.

I know the newer roller coaster movie from '99 where the 5 kids break into a defunct park so 2 of them can kill themselves was filmed at playland in Vancouver.

My band "The Cedar Kings". "Ordinary Day" a trip report in song.

There's been several lists called simply "Coasters In Movies" that have been compiled. The latest one I have was distributed by ACE in 1992, and compiled by Bill Figie. There could be a later edition that I am not aware of.

I used this list to see as many of the movies as I could some years back. I even made an edited video of about 10 movie coaster clips back to back. I need to dig that up!!

If you are in to the history of defunct coasters like me, then the movies with the "longest" coaster clip/segments are:

1)Strike Me Pink (1936) - great slapstick movie with excellent Cyclone Racer footage and POV shots. The scene last for at least 15 minutes.

2)Death Of Ocean View Park (1979)- Extensive, Great footage on & off the ride. This is the movie where they actually blew up the coaster. The coaster was to be demolished by the city anyway, but Hollywood stepped in to do it for them. Excellent flick for seeing the old Rocket in action.

3)Abbott & Costello Goes To Hollywood (1945)- Another comedy with extensive Cyclone Racer footage and special effects. I can watch this one over & over.

4)Fresh Horses (1989) - A great scene of a guy walking the track of the Screechin' Eagle (LeSourdsville Lake). Also, a scene of King's Island Winterfest.

5)The Clones (1973) - A 20 minute shootout between a man riding in the coaster train and a man on the ground as the train does continuous loops through the circuit. The coaster is the Big Dipper, a small woodie at the L.A. County Fairgrounds, also went by the name of Frazier Park. This is a cool looking little woodie with a nice swoop turn. Great POV and aerials of the shootout.

6)Fish Hooky - Little Rascals (1931)- POV of Some Kick coaster on Venice Pier. This was an incredible coaster built all the way out at the end of a pier. Only footage in existance of this coaster.

7)Maids Night Out (1938)- Sea Serpent footage from the Pacific Ocean Park.

8)Hold On!(1956)- More extensive Sea Serpent footage. Funny special effects.

Anyone seen the split second Crystal Beach Cyclone footage on "The Atomic Cafe" movie (1952). It's worth a look. *** Edited 1/20/2006 3:04:00 AM UTC by swampfoxer*** *** Edited 1/20/2006 3:14:17 AM UTC by swampfoxer***

Fat Albert (2004, I believe). Has Albert on at date, and riding what I believe is the Corkscrew @ Playland, (Vancouver, BC).

Now officially a Halloween Haunt Cornstalker for Fall '08! www.freewebs.com/chadmicah
anyone seen the commercial for final destination 3? the whole movie is based on a rollercoaster....not sure exactly which it is, viper at sfmm maybe? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414982/
Kennywood's old Wonder Wheel was featured (briefly) in "Only You", which starred Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey, Jr. Neither of which were in the scene filmed at the park. *** Edited 1/21/2006 12:37:46 AM UTC by Brother Dave***
Floorless Fan, I believe the coaster in Fat Albert is the Santa Monica West Coaster.
The wood coaster in Riding the Bullet is the coaster at PNE.

The Final Destination 3 coaster is a super themed up corkscrew at the PNE as well. They made the station have some sort of mideval theme so it looks more like an IOA or Disney ride from the pictures I saw.

With all the filming up in Vancouver going on, those PNE coasters will be getting a lot of exposure since they're really the only coasters in the area. I'm suprised there aren't more PCW coasters in films since it's near Toronto with all the filming that goes on there.

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure the coaster in The Dead Zone is the old Comet when it was in Crystal Beach.

Re: PCW, depends on who's making the film... ;)

Coaster, couldn't get ENOUGH airtime for all its airtime... :)

Santa Monica Westcoaster is probably the one that gets the most *pictured*...not that it deserves it.. ;)

Silver Dollar City was used a lot for the television show The Beverly Hillbillies and for some of Petticoat Junction.
"Blank Check" was my favorite amusement park shot. It was filmed at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
I think I remember in one of the Karate kids there's a big scene and a lot of stuff happening at an amusement park and they try to shut down the rides or something. and then the karate kid (one of them-wait isn't there more than one? i haven't seen it in a while...) walks on a roller coaster
