Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

With a username such as yours, I'm surprised you aren't more aware that Screamscape is often the #fakenews site in our little hobby circle.

They cancelled it so they could afford to pay the guy who totally got a parasite from Raging Rapids' sludge water. You heard it here first.

I like Screamscape a lot. I don't consider the website to be the "Fake News" of the coaster community. When he know it's not solid news, he tells you that it's a rumor. He often writes, "so take it with a grain of salt." He is familiar with most of his sources, and he tells us when it's a rumor or news.

The wild rumors either turn out to be very early breaking truth or not true at all. I like it a lot.

Sadly inaction from Kennywood seems to be more the norm than anything lately so I wouldn't consider this to be insanely far fetched, Going back to 2012 since a new ride, not to put down the 4-D theater which serves a nice purpose.

How is that useful at all? You're basically saying it's a tabloid.

I have read Screamscape pretty religiously a few times a week since 1999 (taking the rumors with a grain of salt) and many of the "extreme rumors" may start out extreme, but then evolve into confirmed plans... not far from where they started. Some of course are full blown falsehoods that don't go anywhere, but a lot of his sources are already posting on other boards, so by the time I read screamscape, I have already heard rumblings.

Hope Kennywood does continue to build something bigger in the near future.

Considering how often plans change or evolve over time, it's not really possible to evaluate the credibility of rumors "at the time they're made public."

Personally, I only trust Zoltar.

I love screamscape but the fact is the site mostly just acts as a centralized hub for news and rumors from the community at large. The accuracy of the stuff they post is mostly along the same lines as the accuracy of the enthusiast community's rumblings.

If you read the site with that understanding you won't come away disappointed.

Exactly, TheAcrophobicEnthusiast. If you read the site knowing what it is, rumors and news, then it's a lot of fun. Lance takes care of letting readers know what's news and what's rumor. There's nothing deceiving about the site. I enjoy it a lot.

Kennywood... Remember when it was a rumor that Garfield's Nightmare was going to be reverted back to The Old Mill? That rumor was even substantiated here by someone who works at the park and frequents this site.

And did the automobile ride ever return like it was rumored?

What I'm getting at here is that Kennywood doesn't even know what they are going to do in the future. Is this new coaster ever going to be built?

How do you arrive at the conclusion that they don't know their own future plans?

If they don't know their own future plans, it doesn't make me want to visit that park any time soon. Sounds like poor management.

LOL! Seriously. Do I even have to? How are we even here?

Your defense of the site posting unfounded rumors is that the rumors don't come true so the park doesn't even know what it's doing.

Or am I missing the joke here?

Here's something interesting that has some credibility: the Spanish media is reporting that Kennywood will be adding a new kids' area with a budget of 7 (!) million. Allegedly this appeared in securities forms.

Here's the interesting bit, translated via Google:

Among other projects that will invest in next year, include the expansion of Mirabeach (Italy) and a new children's area theme in Kennywood (United States), both with a budget of 7 million.

Good points. Just because rumors don't come true do not mean that the park doesn't know what they are doing in the future...

I guess I didn't stress that the rumors are sometimes substantiated by people who should know. And the news picks up on it. Everyone starts talking about it. I wasn't just talking about Screamscape. Or maybe I am imagining that?

I don't quite know some details here. Did the park say that a new big coaster would be built before some time? Wasn't it like five or so years ago? How did the illustration of the path of the new coaster get leaked to the newspapers? Wasn't it because the park had to file something with the local government or something? Or was that just a fabricated rumor?

And Garfield's Nightmare... Didn't someone at the park comment to the media about that ride sometime being changed back to Old Mill? I thought that happened. It was a while back, so I can't be sure anymore. I do recall someone (I know his name, but I shall not say it here) who should know for sure about The Old Mill saying that it should happen within the next few years. That was about five or so years ago.

When their launched coaster was built, and they had to remove the automobile ride to make room, someone said that the autos would return in another part of the park. Was that a rumor, or did a spokesperson from the park mention that to the media? I can't recall for sure.

Wasn't it announced that they were considering building an indoor waterpark/hotel across the street from the park? Or was it a rumor? I don't recall.

Kennywood is an amazing park, don't get me wrong. It just seems to me that sometimes they struggle with making plans. I will make this point; if they are all rumors, the rumors aren't helping with their credibility. I suppose I may have been somewhat confused, but at least now you all can understand why.

I'm on Screamscape's side. The guy puts up the required disclaimers and has a pretty good track record. And it's usually a pretty fun read. I've got no idea where this notion came from:

I'm surprised you aren't more aware that Screamscape is often the #fakenews site in our little hobby circle.

but the pretention of it is super obnoxious. I've been in this "hobby circle" almost twenty years and I don't see it that way.

Screamscape and this one are really the only two coaster sites I still visit regularly.

Well, when I made up a Cedar Point boardwalk 18 years ago and willed it into existence on Screamscape. Although to be fair, the rumor I made up will finally be true next year.
