That was Vanessa Hudgens? Wow, I just caught a snippet with her.

And as for Sondheim, I'm a fan, but I can't imagine Assassins done for tv. :-) Sweeney Todd? Too scary. Into the Woods? Too hot on the heels of the movie. A Little Night Music? Um, no.
I know! West Side Story!
Agreed West Side Story would be great, but what about Forum? Catchy songs, lots of opportunities for big, broad performances, flashy set changes and choreography.....and it hasn't been done to death in other venues. The last big revival was with Nathan Lane 20 years ago, and nobody remembers the crap movie version. Could be good. Company could also work but the filmed Raul Esparza version is excellent and readily available and already kind of looks like a live TV production anyway so would probably be redundant.
Forum crossed my mind, too. But it struck me as a harder sell than West Side Story. Most of the produced and announced "Broadway live on TV" shows are pretty well known, which makes them easier to promote.
I have amused myself a bit while commuting to and from work considering stunt casting A Little Night Music (probably my favorite Sondheim show).....
I mostly enjoyed the Raul Esparza Company, but prefer the Neil Patrick Harris version. OK, yes, I'm an old showtune queen and Patti LuPone is in it, end of story.
She nailed Ladies Who Lunch and the entire cast was wonderful.
