Riders try to set record on Compounce Wildcat for cash and prizes

Posted | Contributed by supermandl

A 48-year old postal clerk has returned to Lake Compunce to defend his record of 2,001 consecutive laps on the Wildcat. If he outlasts his opponents, he'll win $2,000 and a ski boat.

4,002 fan turns!!! This oughta' be intersting....

I can take many rides on the Wildcat because it's smooth and tame, but never would imagine 200+ consecutively.

LOL Atlantis :-)

Obviously the statement of someone who's never ridden the Compounce Wildcat :-)

I'm not one to slander classic rides but it'd take a hell of a lot more than $2000 and a ski boat to get *me* to ride that thing for over 2000 laps as it certainly wasn't "smooth" when I rode it last year :-)

If you make it too smooth then the contest would take way longer. This is why you see these contest on more intense rides.

That would be cool to do even if there wasn't a prize. Tryin to sleep on a coaster, that would be funny. Do they try to sleep or not?

They stop at night and make them sleep in the station house or train.
No they don't. It runs all night. They get there sleep on the lift and brake run at first then once they get REALLY tired their body won't wake up for the whole ride.

It's his turn to feast, when you ride the Son of Beast.

On the marathon for Great American Scream Machine and Big Dipper, they stopped at night.

Ack ... I could barely take two laps on the Wildcat! It was kind of rough.

Ouch. Maybe he should try for 2001+ laps on Boulder Dash instead... :)
