Riders stuck on Son of Beast

Posted | Contributed by Jacob

WLWT is reporting that Son of Beast has stopped on one of its hills.

Check the story on WLWT's Channel Cincinnati.

[Ed. note: Can you believe how this ride is being placed under a microscope? This is a routine problem that happens on coasters every day. Shame on WLWT for reporting stupid nonsense like, "No injuries have been reported as of yet." Morons. Check out the follow up story here. -Jeff]

Actually channel 9 (in Cincy) showed video of the incident at 11pm news. People were escorted down the lift hill about half way up. The reason people were escorted down was due to a faulty sensor which shut the ride down. It was replaced and the ride was up again 4 hours later. Everyone on that particular train got a free pass. Oh, and according to Jeff Siebert (I think that's Jeff last name, PR rep at PKI) on the newscast, the reason they didn't let the guests stay on the ride was that there were rain clouds in the area. Anyway the ride is still running, and I much rather walk off the ride knowing that sensors are working than for them to keep running the ride w/ a known problem (even though it wouldn't run with a bad sensor). PKI handled it well.
OK, I visit SFO weekly and CP every month or so. Now, I have seen this happen NUMEROUS times. While the riders do not always have to be taken out or "evacuated" (such a brutal term) sometimes they do. At SFO, on Opening weekend a train of riders were taken out of Batman (B&M floorless) Whoopdee do! Thats why they have the steps there!

Exactly! It's not news, it's just a normal thing (even for SOB) that happens on roller coasters from time to time. Who cares? It's not something to make a big deal about.

In a possibly related story, I got a splinter while waiting in line for Ghostrider. I refused medical attention. The ride was not shut down due to my injury.

Oh, please!! I just wanna ride this thing once and see for myself what it is like.

Gotta ride 'em all!
That's what the media does. They make a small problem into the BIGGEST story ever. The media does overeact just a little.

The just showed it in a clip here in chicago! But tht was about 10min. ago. Are they talking about the same Problem or has something else occures since they stopped it on the 24th?
I was stuck on Top Gun for 45 min and i didn't get one single thing for it.
All they got was a ticket to go to the front of the line. and it was only the people on the train. not everyone3 in line. I was there for coastercon and about to take the super restricted walk back tour with jeffery. We went to beast and took pictures and then we got into the SoB!!!
Great Pictures. Places where no regular people have been really before. SoB is really rough in certain seats. I and Rockrc480 rode it 10 times in a row without getting off!!!

Man, I was stuck on the Vortex last year for 2 hours! The train was cresting the hill. It was a sensor malfunction. I got a free pass to the park for any day I wanted. I didn't get to go back however. Oh well. The point is, a lot of people get discouraged from coasters when they 'break down'. In fact, it's not even broken down. The computer thinks something is wrong so it shuts itself down for the safety of the riders. It makes me mad when people say "No way am I riding Son of Beast! It broke down yesterday!" I mean my god, it happened to me and I wasn't the least bit scared. You are safe. There's the anti-rollback system. You're not going to go anywhere. Although I was a bit uncomfortable for the 2 hours it didn't make me mad at them. Hey, the thing is, IT HAPPENS. Nothing is perfect. Would you rather be safe? Or sorry!? hehe :)

The media does over react and makes things look worse then they actually are. For example, just when that girl fell 17 ft from Batman Knight Flight at SFO, the media made it look like she fell like 100 ft and died. That is the medai for you. There is no other interesting news out there
To the IDIOTS at WLWT 5, I wanna know when your gonna make SOB into Son of a B****, WAKE UP PEOPLE, electronics go bad ALL the time, Thumbs up for PKI, these things do happen, and for a good reason SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY, the worst injury that couldve been reported is someone stubbing their toe on one of the steps.. I'LL BE THERE WHEN YOU OPEN AGAIN!!!! (hype makes the ride sooo much better)
