Brian, all those *yankee* parks (SFGA's in NJ, IL) can HAVE their four Beemer lineups, we still NEED some nice Intamin steel. I'd even be willing to *trade up*.
bill, saying, "Take my B&M, please"....as usual, torturing the young buzzers with these old-time references...
(SF) Great American - Everything, and nothing at all. Just ask MF Maniac.
Homey G. - Are you going on a Wednesday? You may be a bit dissapointed. ;)
Gator - I hope for the sake of everyone on this board that some Intamin steel makes its way to your neck of the woods sooner rather than later, too. :)

Bill, yes the old comedic references tickle my funny bone, although I figured my shiny new sig would tickle yours. Not likely to be caught by the younger crowd!

What kind of ride is the Cajun Cliffhanger? Sounds like a predator of the toes.

Hey, we know SFGAM usually gets a new ride every other year. But...in 92 Batman opened, and in 95 Viper opened. Was 93-'94 a two-year dry spell for the park?-----------------

They didn't need any and technically batman opened in 91. They didn't need any because batman was the only inverted in the world for about three years so they just sat back and collected.
edit:it started testing in 91 if im not mistaken.

Batman The Ride was huge for SFGAm. It was so popular for SFGAm that they decided to clone it too many times, thus making Batman The ride at Great America seem like nothing out of the ordinary. Batman still is an extremely popular ride, so I guess they didn't really need one until Giant Drop. Raging Bull was a success, so they didn't need to build anything new for 2000. V2 and Deja Vu which were scheduled for 2001 were not nearly as succsessful. Deja Vu opened more than a year late, and V2 is more of a thrill ride than a coaster. In 2002, when a late opening Deja Vu was the only new ride(and it was closed for more than half of the year and suffered from huge lines), the park didn't bring in as much money.
If the park does bring in a flyer, which I believe they will, it will not provide the same revenue that Raging Bull did IMHO. I think that the Chicago GP will not go for a clone of a small sized coaster will few loops and displacing the landmark that is Shockwave, but I could be wrong. What could happen is the GP will think that the flyer was as innovative as B:TR and rallies around it and brings in a lotta money for SFGAm.
If Six Flags really wants to show that their committed to Great America, they should retheme or rehaul Orleans Place. A flyer that zoomed over the crowds of people in Orleans Place would be really cool. A parking lot flyer would be about as boring as the make your own coaster simulator. A gravel pit like at SFoG, would also be not that good, but better than a parking lot.
Getting rid of Shockwave will really free up a lot of space and I hope that six flags does more than just add a flyer there.
Just my opinion, sorry if you severely disagree with it
As far as new attractions go:
1986 - Splashwater Falls (I believe)
1987 - Power Dive (I believe)
1988 - Shock Wave
1989 - Rolling Thunder
1990 - Iron Wolf
1991 - Condor
1992 - Batman
1993 - Batman Stunt Show
1994 - Space Shuttle America
1995 - Viper
1996 - SW Territory
1997 - Giant Drop
1998 - Cartoon Network Land (I believe-??)
1999 - Raging Bull
2000 - Nothing
2001 - V2/Deja Vu
2002 - Nothing
I actually have the guidebooks from some of the older years (I used to collect that stuff when I was a kid). So, SF was cranking out the coasters in the early 90's - there was only a two year dry spell - not bad considering that there was 4 coasters in 5 years.
Actually, I'd put Deja vu as new in 02! :-)
Do you have an extreme emotional attatchment to those old guidbooks? Becasue I still collect them, and only have from 95 onwards...
Could you at least E-mail me pictures of the old maps? (I love maps, for some reason)

MRKARNO: the reasons why SFGA took a year or two off in between each installiation because that's standard. it is done to recoup losses from the last instllation and to generally make as much money as possible off of the previous installation. it doesn't matter if it was a huge success or not. as for Deja Vu: it opened within the year it was supposed to. it was late, but within its specified year. V2 is hardly considered a thrill ride by the GP.
the GP will love Superman. they obviously hated SW because there were no lines. Superman will be a ride that these people have never seen and will thrill them more than SW ever did. they don't know that its cloned and they don't care that its small because IT A FREAKING FLYER! is it so hard to understand what the public would find fascinating about it?
I agree that a parking lot coaster isn't good, but I have faith that SFGA will rip out the concrete even if it means a few weeks delay in the opening of the coaster.

Ah, forgot about that. In that case, there was another year with the Eagle Backwards as well. 91 maybe??
I sent scans from the 90,91,92 and 94 books to those who requested them. Sorry, the file size on a couple of them are large

The 4th? You should keep an eye out by The Phantom. There's going to be a bunch of enthusiast-types out at KW that night before PPP.

Chris,
There's gonna be 3 of us up there. We're hitting KW Friday night, then heading to SFWoA (I haven't been, they have), and then the finale of CP Sunday (I haven't been, they have). Haha. If I knew what the hell the Phantom was, I would look out for ya. My pics in my info page, but I'm not Corey Jenkins (the guy in pads).
I'm not an enthusiast, I just play one on message boards.
MF roxors baby! SFMM suxors! Wooooooooho.
