Ride operator sentenced in Wisconsin Dells accident

Posted | Contributed by ToddConstantine

The former amusement park employee who dropped a 12-year-old girl 10 stories last summer from a thrill ride in Lake Delton has pleaded no contest to a lesser charge, ending the criminal case against him. Charles Carnell, 34, was convicted Thursday of felony second-degree reckless injury by Judge James Evenson in an agreement with the Sauk County District Attorney's office. Carnell was sentenced to pay $268 in court fees and must give a DNA sample.

Seriously, I didn't really "love" beer before, and after trying many, over the last twenty or so years, Killian's is what I prefer. I just don't prefer to drink more than one any time that I go out, which is rare, especially now that I am not rocking out.

I prefer room temperature Aquafina bottled water when I am on stage. Actually, I need it.

I never did drink a lot, even in my much younger days. I wish I liked alcohol more, so I could fit better in... lol

I always thought I hated beer...until someone introduced me to something that either wasn't American or wasn't 'rain water' beer (remember those commercials?).

Apparently I like the dark, hard stuff.

That's...what...she... nope, I can't do it. Too easy. :)

I'm going to side with Gonch and say that I find it nearly reprehensible that a minimum wage employee is being held criminally responsible for this. I've got no problem with the ride manufacturer or even the park being held criminally responsible. That ride should have never been allowed to be built, sold or operated considering the lack of backups or redundancies.

I don't know Wisconsin law but I would further agree with Gonch that if I worked at a Wisconsin amusement park today I would resign immediately.

Then I have a Russian Imperial Stout for you to try. :) For beer, it's "hard" because it's 10.4% alcohol.

I'm drinking a Founder's Centennial IPA right now. A nice, solid Michigan brew. It's tasty.

I'm the same way. I never drank in high school, and rarely in college. I always thought I hated beer, but it turns out that I just don't like macro-brewed cheap American beer.

Anything Troegs is awesome. Particularly, Mad Elf.

Mad Elf is really good, especially when it was on special for $2 at the Winking Lizard :).

Edit: However, if I had to pick a 2-word beer as my favorite it would be Cuvee Rene. It's a Lindemans Gueze Lambic. I'm a huge Belgian/Lambic fan, though I don't like white/wheat beers much. I LOVE the sours, though.

Yuengling FTW! Can't wait till we can get it in Ohio. I took a side trip from my coaster tour this past summer to visit their original brewery (the oldest in America). Definitely an awesome experience.

I'm the same as Tek, I always thought I hated beer till I tried something that wasn't watered down crap. I can stomach the occasional Budweiser, but that's usually only when I find them on $1 draft specials and I'm feeling cheap.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

Yuengling isn't in Ohio yet? That's kind of surprising.

It's a little weird that you guys are talking about how you prefer to get boozed up on a news story about a guy convicted of nearly killing a girl on an amusement ride.

I thought that it was an ingenious way to diffuse the direction that the topic was probably headed.

It could have been worse, they could have been discussing the different strains of weed they grow in their basements.
