Ride Operations During Weather

Yesterday while I was riding the Rampage at VL the rain caused the brakes to short out and we got stuck. Should rides operate during rain??

If it's safe, yes. (Apparently it wasn't at VL!) I love to ride coasters in the rain.

OH, coasters in the rain rock! I remember riding the American Eagle, at SFGA , in pouring rain, racing the backwards blue train,, it was crazy! and soo fun.
Rides (most of them) can operate in rain, no problem, but it's lightning you have to watch out for! Most parks have a certain waiting period after a storm passes during which no lightning can be sighted before the coasters can be run. Think about it - would you like to be on the tallest steel coaster in the western hemisphere with lightning? :)

I believe that most parks now have lightning detection systems that warn when lightning is close. I think that the criteria is 3 miles, but I'm not certain.
At PKI, they will operate their coasters in the rain, as long as its not pouring down. However, because the Beast has skid brakes and not fin brakes, the brakes don`t work too well in wet weather and is often closed when it rains heavily!
At SFA, just after a thunderstorm, we were waiting for Superman to reopen. The first ride was with two ops/mechanics in the front seat. Some people in the line were having a good ole time and shouting "I HOPE YOU'VE GOT A WAIVER". Everyone was cracking up.

One time I was waiting in line for Ghostrider and it started sprinkling so they had to close the ride until it stopped. It stopped about 5 minutes later and the ride started operating again.
