Sue me for forgetting the ;)
Bob... SF already has that at some parks. It's either the VIP pass or the Qbot. Either will get the job done at GAdv.

You could have some sort of "collection card" that would have all the coasters listed, with a place for a unique stamp which would be administered by ride personnel after riding.

SFA actually had a system nearly identical to this a few years ago when they piloted a system for an up-and-coming company. The system was called "Do It, Prove It." At the entrance to all the coasters and select other rides (such as Typhoon Sea Coaster) they had a vending machine where you could buy the trading card for the ride you were about to ride. The card had a picture of the ride on the front as well as a brief discription of the ride and the stats on the back. At the bottom of the back of the card was a blank space. At the exit of the ride they had a "punch card" like machine that you would slide the card in and it would put the date and time on the blank part of the card. They had it set up that you could only access this machine easily by riding the rides (usually they had it set up before the final exit turnstyle or deep in the exit line of the ride).

You could also buy a lanyard to hold/display your cards, and you could buy all the cards at once in a pack at a reasonable discount. The hope was that the program could be expanded on and eventually spread among many, many parks, but as mentioned before, the demand for this is just next to non-existant so the program ended after just one season. *** Edited 10/6/2005 6:39:13 PM UTC by Coaster Lover***

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Sounds kind of like Old Chicago's Around The World Beer Tour thingy.

Wow, I forgot about that. If it's still there my name is on the bar at the Old Chicago in Lawrence, KS.

I think the idea could be used in a less expensive way for the parks. Maybe the "height checker" could just give each willing patron a hand/arm stamp at the que entrance, and if you had them all by the end of the day you would receive some sort of souviner. That's cheap and cool for the kids/enthusiasts.

Why am I not surprised? ;)

kpjb,

The car your referring to might have been the Pontiac Sunfire that was given away during Fall Fantasy last year.

The Phantom Phanatics was a good program, but I couldn't see it being there any longer than it was. It was just an incentive to having waited in the very long one-train running lines.

Unforuntly, I was unable to get the hat or t-shirt because i only went to Kennywood twice that year so I couldn't make enough laps on it to get anything.

Most parks do this kind of thing already. It's great marketing. I have a shirt from IOA and my wife has one from BWG. I've seen the Cedar Point shirts (various versions over the years). IOA may alter their shirt designs depending on the season -- my shirt doesn't list Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges -- this attraction was in rehab when I was at the park.

That's not the same thing because you don't have to ride ANY of the coasters to buy the shirt - there's no "brag factor" to the friends.. just that you spent money on a T-Shirt :)

The problem with that other system with the cards (which sounds cool to me, BTW... I know - call me an emgee) is that from the sounds of it you had to PAY to participate. If the cards were free, there would probably be a much higher demand - especially kids ("Mommy, can I get a trading card saying I rode Woodstock's Express?"..."No, we're not spending money.") Businesses give out business cards for free.. why not just make a "business card" of the ride?
