Results of 12th Annual Internet Wood Coaster Poll posted

Posted | Contributed by Mitch Hawker

There's a new number one. Actually it's an old number one as Shivering Timbers is at the top for the third time in seven years. The full results are available at the website. While there, take the opportunity to cast your ballot in this year's steel coaster poll which is accepting text and webform ballots through December 15th.

Before anyone chimes in, I want to THANK Mitch for all the time and effort...there's a very good reason Mitch's poll is THE respected ranking system in the industry...

Thanks Mitch! :)

maybe it is just from the Christmas break after semester of hell partying, but that thing looks confusing :)

Numbers are hard. ;)

The first year or two that I dove into this whole enthusiast thing, I was intimidated by Mitch's poll. Then I sat down and really read it wanting to contribute. The whole thing is surprisingly simple once you "get it"

Love the poll, agree with most, LOVE that SBNO Jack Rabbit beats out Rolling Thunder and Mean Streak! HA

Damn. Now I have to plan a trip to Dollywood. This is still the only poll that I put any stock into.

I'll second Gonch's comments.

The poll isn't difficult although the instructions certainly make it seem that way. I was intimidated at first and actually didn't participate for a few years. Once I sat down and read the instructions and did the poll it became really easy. Now it takes me about 5 mins to vote each year.

And yes, thank you Mitch for all your hard work.

Notice the pattern, independent run parks for the most part have the best wood coasters. If I'm not mistaken S. Timbers was built before Cedar Fair bought Michigan's Adventure, and GhostRider built before C.F. purchased Knott's Berry Farm. Correct me. Bottom line hardly ANY Six Flags parks with top wood coasters.

I'd rather stick with *my* hunch, koasterkav...

I don't care who owns the park when it's BUILT, I care who MAINTAINS the wood now...of course, my picks don't exactly line up with the poll results, so what do *I* know? ;)

Point taken 'gator. There are woodies that would be better if they were taken care of by parks as they should. But unfortunately many are not. In California we have very few good wooden coasters. GhostRider is king out here. It will be interesting to "ride" the results of the Geouga Lake woodies being retracked in '05. Cedar Fair again. Paramount Parks have Grizzly (rated the worst of the worst) and Son of Beast at Kings Island has been a major disapointment. Six Flags has been noted to take poor care of their woodies. (Colossus and Psyclone at M.M. NEED retracking badly!) I've only ridden GhostRider of the top ten on the list, but Tremors at Silverwood in Idaho has been highly rated since it opened. Hope to ride it soon.
