Resolving Accronym and Abbreviation Confusion.

^How could you forget the summer of 2000 when no one could spell that one right (Mellienum, Melienium, Mellinnium, Millinnum, etc.) and as for differentiating between the MFs, besides the topic being discussed for me:

MF=CP's
MF Trains=GCI's
POS=Trains on MF ;). *** Edited 6/24/2006 6:31:15 PM UTC by Touchdown***

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

MF = Millennium Force
MFlyers = Millennium flyers

PLEASE stop confusing me. Yes, this is all about me. The universe's center of orbit just happens to be me.

I don't think anyone says "I went to see pee last week".

Umm...I say that, but it has nothing to do with coasters!

I am amazed people use these in real life.

What about M:TR? Anyone want to go into length about that? ;)

If anyones confused on abbreviations, or accronyms, use context clues to find it out. It's not too hard.

Me too for instance:

S-F-G-A-d-v=6 sylables
Gr-eat Ad-ven-ture=5 sylables

When I talk I usually dont use acronyms for parks, companies sure (B&M, PTC, CCI, etc) but for parks Im more likely to just shorten them to one word and use the conversation/coaster in the sentance to fully describe it for instance:

I was at Busch Gardens yesterday, and Apollo was running great.

Etc, etc. But it helps with the geek factor and sometimes scares GP when people use the acronyms so Im ok with it :).

^ Funny, I went to Busch Gardens yesterday....Apollo was nowhere to be seen.. ;)

But Montu was nice... :)

I say SFoG all the time. Though I say it like ess-fog. It's fun. I coined that.

So guys the other day I was over at DG riding their cm but IMO what they really need is a GCI or TGG woodie cos I really like both but I'm kinda heavy and those MF trains can be real MF'ers when it comes to getting a lot of airtime then again I was at CP riding MF and my friend got stapled on MF and complained but I was like puhlease I was at SFGADV riding ET and I got totally stapled but this was right after riding GASM so after that just about anything wouldn't have been as painful. But then again that park has some great B&M's not to be confused with bm's which is what I felt like i had to do after getting off GASM. JC couldn't have helped me after that ride I think Sen. E. Markey D-Mass should look into that ok guys BRB!
Woodie would be redundant with GCI and TGG. Someone new might be able to deduce something. Did you have ERT on ET? Where's the TR?

In a related vein, since MF is aka Millie, Magnum is Maggie, SOB is Sonny, would PR at KW be Fannie? Goliath become Golly? The Comet become a Commie? Oh the humanity.

P-K-I................ 3 sylables
Kings Is-land.... 3 sylables

Which one has been used the most the past 13 years on a casual basis?
Has anyone actually pronounced it "picky?" *** Edited 6/25/2006 2:34:17 AM UTC by CoastersNSich***

I really liked when Tomb Raider: The Ride came out and people were writing trip reports for it.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Am I the only one here who thinks this topic is a waste of time. One can often (>99% of the time) figure out an abbreviation from context.

OK...now you're just being silly. When I said enthusiasts use abbreviations in spoken conversations I did not mean ALL of them!

No one actually says S-F-G-A-D-V...they say "great adventure" because it is the accepted shortened name, or nickname, for that park. Likewise only a tool would saw S-F-M-M...they would say "Magic Mountain." Cedar Point is commonly referred to as either "the Point" or "CP." Conneaut Lake Park is usually referred to as Conneaut Lake or simply Conneaut.

SHEESH!

^We arent talking about all entusiasts out here Moosh, but there is a just a special subset of us that do use acronyms for everything (its amazing who you meet sometimes on the Beast walkbacks);). *** Edited 6/25/2006 3:46:38 AM UTC by Touchdown***

Another ambiguity -- BP could mean either Bushkill Park or Bells Park. In the latter case, it'e easy enough to just avoid the acronym and just say Bells. It's clear that this refers to the Oklahoma park.

I'd rather have abbreviations all over the place and good grammar than vice versa. Not that they're interchangable or something.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Just think when we have to start referring to parks as

TPFKAPKI, TPFKAPKD, TPFKAPCar, TPFKAPCW
(The park formerly known as Paramount Kings Island, etc.) Maybe we could start using symbols.
