Reptar ready to roar in Nick Central at Carowinds

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Paramount's Carowinds continues to work on their new Vekoma junior inverter, Runaway Reptar. The new ride is like the one at Paramount's Kings Island, and will open this spring.

I visited this park in 2000. Nice, but they need something new that's BIG, in my opinion.

The support structure is the same as that on the identical ride at Dreamworld. RCDB's pictures also confirmed that it is the same as the one at Canada's Wonderland at PKI. On Dreamworld's, they put a big orange ball sporting the Nickelodeon logo on top of that central support.

I wish ours was the nice bright yellow and green, instead of the warm yellow and green it is. I guess they didn't want it to match Cyclone's scheme too much.

So what if the best coaster in Australia is a second hand Arrow?

Taxi Jam = Best. Coaster. Ever. Really though, during the ACE event it WAS loaded up with a train of ACEers, and it was the best part of the entire day. I don't know how many times we went around without stopping; one guy must have been on there for at least 40 laps.... And Chopper Chase, a coaster? It doesn't even have any elevation change, does it? Back to the subject of Reptar, I'm hoping and almost assuming that the height restriction will be changed before opening day. Currently it is listed as a minimum height of 54 inches or 48 if with an adult. That is fairly absurd seeing as rides like Hurler, Thunder Road, and Ricochet are 44. If it follows through, the four rides in the park with the greatest height requirement will be Top Gun, Vortex, Drop Zone, and.... Reptar. Now which one doesn't fit? :)

Is it the Charlotte area that marketable for "family oriented" attractions? I would say 40% of the park is family based now. Hopefully they will get the hypercoaster next year that's been buzzing around lately.

OK, so that was Yogi's Sky Tours (?)...my bad! No elevation change....basically the same as the IoA *Drving Machines*....only operational, ROFL...;)

Sean, I'm sure you're right and it's just the viewing angle....and that cool *umbrella*....

I've riden Yogi's Sky Tours at PKI, I can't say as I would even remotely consider it to be a coaster. What it IS is a whole lot of pointless work for little gain. Don't get me wrong its a cool ride, once.

As far as putting Canvas on the 'umbrella' on Reptar, I'm holding off for Rideman to chip in as to why they can't cover that portion of the ride in canvas.

I'm sure it'd be very easily done. It just won't be done because it'd serve very little purpose as it wouldn't be able to cover much usable ground (maybe 3m or so). That and it'd look damn ugly.

ahhhhhh!!!!! why can't we get a big coaster?!

Ok, since Rideman didn't take his cue.

If you covered part of Reptar with canvas tarps, it would be too in tents. (Say it fast)

Jeff, where is the feature to insert a brief audio clip into your post? :)

We'd have to *canvass* quite a few people to come up with a worse pun than that one...;)
