Replacing coaster wheels everyday?

I know we have talked about this before over on GTTP, but the company that refinishes the poly wheels for Cedar Point, Six Flags WOA, and a few other parks used to be down the street from my house.  I know they moved a few miles away but I never check out where they moved to,  they were called Industrial Tire or Industrial Wheel.  I knew it was odd when I saw a CP maintenance truck close to my house one day.

Their old location used to be next to a body shop where I was getting my taurus fixed.  I knew the owner of the body shop and my car was in the back lot and when I went back there I walked past the back room area of Industrial Tire and I saw boxes of wheels from CP.  I saw two boxes that said Gemini, and CCMR.  I about fell over, I didn't see a magnum box though.

Jeff -- essentially yes. Resistance to heat, wear, and abrasion, with proper riding and rolling characteristics... essentially don't exist. Plastics tend to squish, which makes them degrade faster.

Metal wheels are also susceptible to worn flat spots. They can be ground back to true (albeit smaller) for quite some time, though.

Hey Dan - that is some car you have!   I'll trade you my owner's manual for your Magnum photo album any time!   Are Magnum's wheels polyurathane or Nylon?  I always thought they were Nylon, but considering how quiet Magnum is, Dave is probably right (that and the fact he's right about most things! )

Magnum wheels must be poly. I touched them on several occasions and they feel more like a bowling ball than nylon.

Here's something no one mentioned... didn't they mix the polymer used on the Goliath wheels with Teflon or some such substance? Then on top of that they installed fans to keep them cool?

(Isn't it ironic that Millennium Force used gas heaters to keep the wheels warm late in the season?)

Yup. Then why don't they install air conditioners on the cars to keep the wheels (& riders) cool? :) Hey, how about those F1/CART air scoops used to keep the brakes cool?

I read that standard polyurethane wheels were first used on Goliath & MF. They started melting & so were replaced with some new-fangled wheels. I forgot the name of the plastic used, anyone know?

The Magnum wheels are polly, even the guides and upstops.

Matt:  I actually had an older Taurus before I got the one I have now.  I had a '93 Taurus and when I got my parking pass for the 2000 season my parking pass number was 666.  Three days after getting the parking pass I blew a head gasket in my '93 Taurus and a few weeks later I bought the Taurus I have now.
