The Reedy Creek firefighters' proposal is a simple one. Just a single paragraph long, it would require both the union and Reedy Creek's management to abide by recommendations made by an independent mediator when contract negotiations become stuck at impasse. Right now, both sides must turn to a mediator when contract talks stall. But the mediator's recommendations aren't binding. If either side doesn't like the mediator's decision, the dispute is ultimately resolved by Reedy Creek's five-member board of supervisors.
