recent bashing of Vekoma SLC's

Not 100% sure what 'slating' means, but If you are asking if I talked bad about the Vekoma company, then Yes, you are probably right. I do not think thay are the best company in the world, but I stil like the SLC design. In fact, I cant think of a time when I said I didnt. Now, the Vekoma reliability track record leaves a bit to be desired (see the flying Dutchmans) and they still have some engineering things to work out (see side wheel gaps). But their layouts are exciting.

I have rode MANY SLC'S and I have no problem with them.
I don't like SLCs.  They just don't feel like a dynamic ride compared to a B&M inverted.  I don't expect B&M all the time, but if I can't have the best type of inverted, I'd much rather have a woodie, bobsled or something else.
where and when was the first SLC built? i remember when SFA's (at the time Adventure World)'s Mind Eraser was introduced in '95, and they had Cal Ripken, JR. in the commercials and his eyes popped out of his head on the drop. ah, memories.

note: sources say that Cal Ripken actually likes SLC's. and yes, I'd have to say that SFA's ME in the best SLC out there. I think Kong at SFMW is the worst.

The first SLC was El Condor (I forget what the park was called, its a Six Flags park now).  It was built in 1994, and the first wave of North American ones came in 1995.
ok cool. el condor is at SF Holland

Great Nor'Easter was really fun when i rode it. I like SLC's. The design is nice, and they look awesome. And if it's a little rough, who cares?

SLCs (the design) are intense compact coasters.  This is why they're the most widely cloned continuous circuit coaster.

Unfortunately, they're rough.  However, I didn't get headbanged.

Vekoma inverted coaster tracks simply look like Arrow tracks hanging upside down!

I've only ridden 1 SLC: Top Gun of PCW.

The final 2 inversions are uncomfortable.

It's not as rough as TOGO's stand up coasters, but pretty close.

Summary: new-looking coaster that feel like coasters from the 80's

Personally, I like variety, so for me, not every steel coaster has to be smooth-as-glass.  I would much rather ride an SLC than an Arrow mega-looper like GASM.  Now THAT'S rough!
hehe in the moring's great? Iwas on the first train to disbatch for the morning on ME at SFDL and i was very smooth
