I think it depends as much on the ride ops as it does on the park policy. Places where I've gotten rerides:
Kennywood
SFO
Cedar Point
PKD
Knoebels'
BGW
Lakemont

I've ridden Kumba a bunch of times in a row. The Ride ops on Rock n Rollercoaster let us stay on during the test rides, and also on haunted mansion at Magic Kingdom they let us go through again.
At Knott's they don't care. Like I said in my trip report, one day I sat on Ghostrider, Montezooma's, and Supreme Scream for three trips each with out getting off.
Depends on the crew.
The only park I have ever been to where this was a situation, is SFO.
One evening, we got about 15 Serial Thriller rides in without leaving the station. We even could change seats if we wanted.
One night, on Villain, we got 5 rides in non-stop.
On the same token, the S:UE crew wouldn't let us, when we were the ONLY people around.
Knotts they will literaly let u stay on all day. At sfmm the only ride they let us stay on was Viper. On Riddlers there was no one at the gate, but the woman said we had to go back in line. On Revolution this man was really rude. I ask if we could stay on and he says no. I said well no ones going to be on so can we please go on. The man looks at us pulls down the restaraints and says good you now can notice things and starts clapping his hands and his worker friends start laughing
Joel, last time I went to IOA, I asked one of the operators at DD and she gave me very obvious reasons.
1)takes a long time to get through queue
2)there are two of them to choose from(4-6 trains at a time)
3)quick loading/dispatch
She said that they get plenty of riders through the day, but not enough to fill their elaboratly themed queue. She believed that the queue is 2-3 times the size it should have been. It is they're #4 most ridden attraction though.
1)Spiderman
2)The Hulk

"At Lagoon in Farmington, Utah, we do not allow re-rides on our coasters. When I was being trained for Dragon/Mouse Crew, I was told it makes a park look "Unprofessional." I do agree with Lagoon's opinion of that. I do think it makes a park look Unprofessional when they allow re rides, it is not normal operation. I know the rules, as do most people, and follow them. If you really want to ride the coaster, what's the big deal with walking out the exit and walking back through the queue? If the ride is worth it, I don't mind, it's just more exercise."
Exactly what looks unprofessional about letting people reride if there is not enough people in line to fill up the train? You'd think a smaller park like yours would allow it. Even big themers allow it! I just can't see what is unprofessional about it. If anything, it leads to happier guests having a better day at the park.

ya ,SFAW lets you stay on rides if no1 is in your row. I rode on GREEZED LIGHTNIN'about 8 times in a row.
In response Legendary, re-rides at Lagoon and most parks are not "Normal Operations." It is the Standard at Lagoon not to allow re-rides on coasters, thus, as a Standard of Normal Operations, it makes Lagoon appear more Professional. I hope I made sense.

I guess, what I'm asking, is what specifically about allowing rerides appears unprofessional. Not the fact that it is "the Standard at Lagoon."
What about the very act of allowing rerides looks unprofesstional, I guess, is my question.

I have gotten re- rides at Hersheypark during their Halloweekends, and Six Flags Great Adventure early in the season.
at my park, SFGA,, during the days when like no ones there, usually you can stay if no ones there, or sometimes we sneak to another seat,, usually its on the eagle in the morning, which is pimp cause thats my ride..
Most of the crews running SROS will let you do that if no one is in line for your seat. I have only done that once-where I stayed in my seat, but I am sure some employees won't let you. I geuss it all depends on which crew you get! One time on Flashback at SFNE, barely anyone was at the park and my friend and I were the only ones on the train. The crew let us ride alone, and then when the ride was over, let us stay in the train.

I've gotten rerides at Michigan's Adventure's roller coasters. I've also benn allowed rerides on the Blue Streak at CP two years ago.
I was allowed to ride the CCI woodie at my park in Maine fives times in a row. Nobody was inline.

I was at SFGAM and i went on the wizzer and got many re-rides on it. This coaster is so fun

Six Flags Great America Rules
We have had many rerides at different parks. Most of the Six flags chain, Dorney Park, Bush Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Island and Kings Dominion. The strangest one we found however was the Coney Island Cyclone. They stop the ride in the unloading area and if you want to reride they collect your money there for the next ride and you stay in your seat reguardless of the line length.
If re-rides are against policy, it is not normal operations to allow them. To have a policy that states one thing, and then do another, that would be unprofessional. I personally feel there is no BIG problem with allowing re-rides in general. I do believe it CAN make a park appear unprofessional if they allow some people to
re-ride, and others not to. But the act of
re-rides is no big deal to me. I think a park might as well fill up a train, and not send it up the lift with hardly no one in it. That is just plain wasting money.

20 laps in the back seat of Villain on media day. NO complaints about the lap bar either.

You're still not answering the real question, though.
WHY does that policy exist? What is it about rerides that looks "unprofessional", that causes parks to have a policy like that in the first place? Is it better to dispatch half-empty trains while forcing people to walk around just to hop in an empty seat again? Isn't having a train full of happy riders go past is more "professional looking" than watching an empty train roll by?
