RCT3 New Western Theme Screens & Video

As promised, IGN has posted their weekly theme by theme update. This week it's the western theme. Looks pretty cool and a LOT different then the previous RCT games. There's some good headchoppers on the woodie in the video.

I hope those strange black-box supports are optional wooden supports. They look horrible!

The pov is really good but once again I think that the flatrides look much better than the actual coasters.

Yeah, I was going to say, if you can't see through a woodie that would be a serious flaw. Even crappy see-through textures would be better than that.

ok I will have no life after this game comes out!

Well this pic shows a woody without the ugly boxes, so I think we'llbe OK.

Many the boxes give an alternative for people who's 3D video cards might bot be up to the recommended level to boost their fps?

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

Maybe the boxes were a weak attempt at some sort of custom support structure?

All I could think about the coasters was "Have they played the first two games?" That mini coaster must have some serious speed going into those unbanked curves at the bottom.

I must admit, this is really making me contemplate getting a new computer very soon. My computer is 5 years old, and it's not even close to handling a game like this. Heck it barely handles RCT2 when zoomed out very far.

I could play NoLimits (which I own but can't play) as well if I get a new comp. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should get, I haven't even looked lately.

Yeah, I think those supports were either some type of alternate 'dressing', or someone decided to cover the standard beams with one of the stackable objects. The Western-themed coaster video alternate between two wooden coasters in cam mode, and you can see clearly that one of them doesn't have those frigging milk crates or whatever they are.

Hmmmmmm.... I've seen numerous older game pics of wood coasters that look normal without the box wall things:

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/affpic.htm?images/pc/r/o/roc3pc035.jpg

So unless there is some sort of issue that has cropped up, I don't know why we would see them now. Could what we are seeing be just western theming that is meant to invoke the feel of a fort perhaps? That's the impression I got looking at the pics. They are on the train ride too. Check out this pic:

In it, if you look to upper right corner of the pic, the woodie has these walls on the front (where the path cuts through looking much like a fort) but to me, it looks like the ride does not have these walls on the backside hill which is just as tall. Hard to say though. I certainly hope that's not the case. To me, the train ride is even worse with them then the coasters.

I think whoever did that park thought it looked cool but I kinda agree it looks hokey. I think i need to get my fix of designing since i gonna be stuck at home with ivan's remains passing through this weekend.

And cheaper!

I just built myself a mini itx machine similar to the humidor one on mini-itx webpage
http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/humidor64/

Building really is fun! THough of course thats not my main machine and wouldn't be powerful enough to run it probably! but still, shows how much fun building a pc can be.

I will be investing in a new gfx card soon so rct3 shouldn't be too much trouble.

Ha! That humidor PC is great!

Exactly what I'm thinking too. I mean, it's looks to be a fitting stackable object for that theme, if that's what it is, but might as well build structures out of it, and plop them nearby the coaster, or have the coaster go through them (tunnel); instead, someone apparently opted to use them as supports so it seems.

Dont forget the exciting sheep ride :)
When I read the article that accompanies the pictures, my suspicions were confirmed that those are supposed to be buffalo not sheep

I also watched the video where I did not see those box supports at all. So, my guess is that they are only there to make the game run smoother on slower machines.

The Humidor is good, but I like the C64@933 even better. So much so that I might have to make one...

I've still my zx spectrum in the attic, but I refuse to rip it's guts out to put a pc in. My little wooden box carefully diguised in my living room is enough to make me happy :)
