RCT2 q's --running the game

Lately, my RCT2, this game in particular, but some of my other CDs, have been running slowly. The trains have been pausing while going through the circuit and it's hard to tell how fast it's really going.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I know it's probably not the CD but the CD drive. I know there are a lot of computer experts on Coasterbuzz, and I want to know how I can make my drive faster.

I have another question. When I'm playing RCT2 and running nothing else, it randomly bottoms itself to the taskbar and the desktop appears. Does anyone know how to fix this?

One more. When I'm playing any game, popups will become destroyed, but I will get a error report thingy. I have a cable internet connection. When playing RCT2, the game will bottom to the taskbar and the desktop will appear with the error report thing. Does anyone know how to make the error reports not be a priority over RCT and to make RCT keep running?

I'm not sure if it is a problem with your CD drive, but rather something that is running on your system. What did you install recently before the problem started and have you done a virus scan.
I've done a virus scan, I have none. I've cleaned up my memory and like nothing is left. I only run RCT2 when I play it.

Are you sure somehting like AIM isn't running?

I would assume the problem is that you are running Windows. Unfortunately, since RCT2 isn't available for the Mac, you have to keep a Windows machine around if you want to play it.

I primarily use my Windows machine for RCT2 and a TV tuner, plus a few other apps. I have moved the majority of my work to my iBook, which has far fewer software issues.

Anyway, back to topic. You are probably due for a reinstall of Windows. As everyone knows, Windows has a certain half-life, which is generally shorter than the half lives of other OSes, such as Mac OS.

I suggest a reinstall of Windows, as you have probably reached your halflife, or even more, and your system probably will not get any better under the current install!

General rule I use: If you use Windows a lot, and do a lot of things with it (installing and uninstalling programs/games), an install will probably last a few months. If you leave it alone, you should be able to get at least a year of use without any problems.

If you use Windows Me or earlier, and have had it a while, I suggest a reinstall. With 2000 or XP, if you have had it over a year or so, you should look into a reinstall, if its not just RCT2 that is acting up

I have the same problem.

I'm positive I'm not running anything else. The only icons in the bottom right is my sound controls and the time. I have Windows XP Professional and have had it for about 2 years. Do you think a reinstallment of Windows is necessary?

I've had the slow running problem, too. I've noticed the cause most likely is a lack of available RAM, especially if you have a park with a lot of stuff in it. You can try to free some up somehow, or the easiest way is to install more. Like I said, I have the problem occasionally (I have had XP for 9 months), and I have 512MB of RAM. I would suggest adding enough to get you to that, at least, if you don't have as much.

It's all good!!!

What type of video card do you have? How much memory is in your system? Do you have programs running in the back around? You can email me and I walk you through looking for problems.

Not everything that is running in the background will show up as an icon in the systray. They can even be made to not show up when you hit ctrl+alt+del. Your problem really does sound like you have something running in the background that is stealing a lot ram. That can really become a problem if you don't have much ram to begin with.
Hmmmm... all these problems; sounds like you a virus known as: Windows.exe

Unfortunately if you're using a PC, there's really no way to get rid of it. And since RCT only runs on the PC, you're kind of stuck for now.

As mentioned before, you can do a temporary fix- kind of a punch to the gut before this so called "Windows" virus regains composure. Just back up everything you have on CD and reinstall your operating system. Convienient, eh?

Ok guys, I've gotten it to run a lot better. The trains still pause when they go on curves at high speeds though. But thanks for the tips!

Can anyone answer my last 2 questions? (see the first post and they are the last 2 paragraphs).
