RCT2 on MACs: any solutions?

Has anyone figure out how to get RCT2 on a Mac yet? I'm considering buying an iBook or an iMac but RCT2 is a big issue.

Not having a Mac, I wouldn't know for sure, but aren't there Windows emulators readily avaliable for this sort of thing?

Of course, you'd have to pay for more than the game itself just to play RCT2...

I have a Mac and Arrow Guy has one as well. We both use Virtual PC (Wind 98) . Now, when RCT was produced by Hasbro Interactive, it worked very well on my machine, however, Now since RCT2 is through Infogames, it just wont work.

I know, Im disappointed too.

I doubt very much the publisher has to do with anything, seeing as how the same guy wrote the code for both.

Does Virtual PC work with most games or select games? What about games like Nolimits or Quake III?

One of the tech teachers at my school was emulating three operating systems on her PowerBook. She was running Autodesk Inventor on it, which was working pretty well. That's a pretty large program so if it can handle that, why wouldn't it handle RCT? (I'm not the right person to ask, but I can check with some of my friends on this)

I agree with Kick The Sky. Be a man and buy a PC. I've never been a fan of MACs. Hey, if you want to think differnt, don't buy a MAC, just buy a Dual Boot PC with Linux and Windows XP. Linux, your not in window's so your happy. Win XP you have for the games. Please stay away from color acessorized computers unless it's and Alien Warez.

Yeah, First I’m on a 1.3ghz P4 Dell Dimension 8100. That's more than a PC. Not to get into a PC vs. Mac fight but from recent experience, Macs are much better than PCs. You never have those problems of needing to download new drivers or version updates just to connect a camera to your PC. You never have to click and shuffle through music when you have an iPod cause when you connect it to your Firewire port "Zip" everything is there! I hated the days of having to use my ass minidisc player or my third party MP3 players; they all sucked compared to my iPod. 5gbs, Firewire, amazing design, and excellent performance all in one!
PCs are in the stage of "the more, power the better." No one needs a computer that has 2.1ghz! The fastest processor I’ve have ever seen in a system requirements is 700mhz. RCT2 needs 300mhz and 64mbs. Not saying you should have the minimum requirements, I'm saying there's no need for a 2.1ghz processor or 1gb of memory. Congratulations, you have the fastest computer on the block. But, will we be able to see a difference between your 2.4ghz P4 with 1gb of memory and my 800mhz G4 with 256mb of memory? I don't think so...

Every day I wish I could go 100% Mac, because OS X really is that much better. Unfortunately (or fortunately from an income standpoint) I'm a Microsoft developer with all Windows software, so it wouldn't be practical for me to switch.

Yeah, the publisher probally has 0 to do with it. Perhaps I should update to Wind 2000.

Let the troubleshooting begin....

I don't think this applies to any o f the RCT titles, but it does to apps like No Limits. One thing I recently learned about Virtual PC:
It does not support accelerated 3D graphics cards and they say there isn't any plan to support them in the near future.
I just got another Mac (My third Power Mac in 7 years). I had made do with my pre-G3 Power Mac 8600 for 5 years, and it was time to take advantage of the advancements over the years. I really wanted to run OS X--it rocks! So I got a dual G4 867MHz....oh, it's sweat. I may be a loyal mac user, but I refuse to buy an iMac, so I splurged a little, but it was under $2k. Anyway, I was hoping I'd be able to run No Limits under Virtual PC, but alas, no. I do have the licensed personal learning edition of Maya though, so I'll just have to learn to 3D model coasters the hard way.
I had thought about spending much less to get a decent PC so I could run No Limits, but then I remembered how much I hate the Windows environment and how much happier I am when I'm using my Mac over the PC's in the Engineering Lab and at work.
With the power of OS X, a ton of software companies are now producing for the Mac, so be patient. We may get our chance to run RCT yet. Wow this has turned into an Apple "Switch" commercial

Matt Scott is right - Connectix stopped support for graphics cards after VPC 3.0, because it realized that trying to support 3D games through emulation was just too silly to put a bunch of money into.

Unfortunately, this stinks for people who used it to play smaller, less demanding games like RCT or the other Tycoon games. As far as i can tell, you can only get Virtual PC to emulate up to 4 Megs of VRAM. RCT2 requires 8 (even though it doesn't say so on the box, i e-mailed Infogrames and they confirmed this).

This was severely irritating, but still, i doubt there's anything that can be done. Connectix won't support anything higher, unless 6.0 comes out anytime soon. If you bought a copy expecting to play it on Mac, i'd return it and say that it didn't state the full requrements (i.e. the 8M VRAM) on the box. Although, personally, i kept mine in hopes of finding a friend with a PC that i can "visit" every once in awhile to get a fix. Although i've yet to play it.

Hope this helps, and i'd still never give my mac up for the world, although for once i'm jealous of PC users.
