RCT and Win2k

Does anyone know if you can play RCT in Win2k?
I read the Sawyer interview and he said it should work for Win2K.

I tried it. It didn't work. Did he say LL would work for W2K or RCT?

I think GregLeg said he tried it and had problems with the save/load dialogues. Greg?

I'm kind of interested in this myself, because I might upgrade to it for stability. (If you question the stability of the OS, consider it has been running this site, as well as some others, for about six months without interuption.)

I also had problems with the save/load. I haven't seen a fix for this yet. I'll keep looking.
RCT and CF don't work under Win2K. Not well, anyway. You can't load/save your parks, and even if you don't use those dialogs it crashes sometimes.

Chris Sawyer has said that LL *WILL* work under Win2K, and that a patch will be coming for RCT/CF for those who don't want to buy LL.

well seeing how win2k is basically the next version of WinNt I don't think it will work well at all since NT don't work to well with games. The next version of the Win9X will be Windows Millennium and this should be more compatable.
There's no inherant reason why NT shouldn't work well with games, it's all how the game is written. For example, Baldur's Gate, Quake 2, Sin, Caesar 2 work great. Diablo 2 would work if I had a post-1995 video card in my computer. The sims doesn't work at all, though. The RCT demo worked under NT4 but when I pushed the right mouse button it would crash.

I think the problem is that NT4 only supported DirectX 3, while 2000 supports the latest version. However, there are still some little problems in supporting shared libraries (like the load/save dialogues).

Yup, good summary, Jeff.

There was actually a time where with certain games, NT was BETTER than Win95. GLQuake, for instance, was getting better framerates under NT than 95, with a few caveats (you needed the right video card, and had to not mind if the sound lagged a bit behind the display because sound was still through the Win32 API instead of DirectX). WHY that was the case is WAY off topic for this thread ;)

For those of us who want/need Win2K for various reasons, the ability to run games IS important, though, and I'll be looking forward to proper support when LL arrives...

Just a minor note... Windows Me has the same save/load dialogues as Win 2000 and both Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes work fine with it.
