RCT 3 Patch #2 is out

Wow...everyone must have given up on this game. The new patch has been out for over 24 hours now and I am the first to mention it? Well anyhoo...

It helps out the framerate issue quite a bit. Actually not so much the FPS (only boost that by about 5) but the whole smoothness of the game. However, on my machine at least, this seems to have come at the expense of sound. Certain sounds (the screams, the money sound, and the yay/yeehaw sounds) are now all garbled or cut off in certain places (which is really weird because in other places within the same park they sound just fine). I think it's because they seem to have messed with the distance range of a sound. Now I hear people yelling YAY! from two rides over and I think it's just trying to play too many sounds at the same time now.

But my 10 coaster park which was an unplayable slide show, is now fully playable so despite the sound issues I still think this is an improvement over what we had before.

Two steps forward, one step back I guess.

Yeah, that shows the enthusiasm around here for the game.

I suppose it's worth a download, sounds like they worked some issues out.

Thanks for the heads up.

No.... there's a reason nobody has talked about it...

...I cannot find it! It's not on the official RCT site, and it's not on the Gamespot site...

...anyone have a link, as well as the list of changes accompanied by it?

Here is the link(2nd link down) however read the forum section for advice on it.

Why not just let RCT download it for you and not have to worry about where to put it. The download is about 5 meg for those on slower connections. Just a heads up...

The automated version doesn't work for me. Says it can't find patch beta 1, which of course it can't because I have the full release version of the update.

Sounds like some weirdness. Worked fine from the RCT menu for me.

Did you try out the Beta patch? If you did, did you uninstall/reinstall when the final version of patch 1 came out? Sounds like it still thinks you're using a beta patch somewhere.

I'm still waiting or the patch that adds "fun" to the game. ;)

The automated version didn't work for me either. It said it couldn't find RCT, go figure. ;-)

I was able to download it manually from the provided link.

The same thing happened to me the first time. Then I started the game just to make sure nothing weird happened. After the game loaded ok, I closed it out, and tried the install again. The second time it worked fine for me!

I downloaded it from the ftp site, and I had no problems at all, i don't like the automated version, it takes way too long here. The game seems to have impmroved, My FPS is up by at least 8 fps, I don't remember what it was before though. Even with all my graphics maxed out all the way the FPS stayed the same, it was awesome!

I finally played with the game a bit. No noticeable FPS increase (at least nothing meaningful; 1 or 2 FPS at most) and I'm also getting the weird garbled scream sounds.

Glad some of you are finally seeing a bit of performance out of the game.

I do like the low friction option for imported coasters.

I didn't hear screams, and sound was on, either that or like you said garbled now that I think of it. I did notice the low friction.
This update made a huge difference in performance on my lower-end laptop. I haven't checked the exact fps rate, but it doesn't really matter...the whole game play is much smoother. Also, I think it helps that I finally got all the graphic options "tweaked" to maximum performance.

And, now that I can see water, it's like a whole new game <G>.

Joel

I haven't noticed any increase in frame rates yet. The only thing that I noticed, and it wasn't even mentioned in their update readme, was the shop synchronization.... Oh well, at least it's something.
