Ravine Flyer II passes final hurdle. Construction starts next fall

The court overturned the final apeal by the neighboring campground granting Waldameer its variance to build on the bluff.

Since TOS requires I not post copywrited material. I won't and the actual link to the article requires sign up registration.

Now I will have a new reason to go to Waldameer! YEAH! I really do love this park. And Steel Dragon spinning coaster is a lot of fun as is the Comet. As if I need one more reason to go to Waldameer. I will just avoid a nice day in August next time! ;)

FINALLY!!! WHOOOHOOO!

The Candelarias didn't object to the coaster being built...they objected to the PATH of the coaster and that it come so close to their home. Just thought I'd throw that out....

mOOSH

About how close will it get to their home?

Although what Moosh said is correct the park still needs this addition to continue doing business.

It's been a long fight and I'm glad that the park won this time.

It will come within 50 feet according to past Erie Times News articles.

What a wonderfull early Christmas present. This is Great!!

Pittsburgh, City of Champions!
Steelers + Penguins
2009 What a great year!

I'm not that familiar with the case, but of course it won't prevent me from putting in my $0.02.

1) Regarding the argument that state law forbids erosion of the bluffs-- PA state law prohibits activity that will cause erosion anywhere throughout the state.

It doesn't mean you can't build. It just means that you have to take the proper precautions during and after construction to prevent erosion. If erosion occurs, you're required to remedy the situation. If not, you're fined and construction is stopped.

2) Regarding the path of the coaster being too close to the people's house-- could it be that their house is built too close to the property line? If so, why penalize the park?

3) I hate the argument "we're not against the (insert project name here) just with where they're putting it." Translation: we'll like it when you water it down and restrict it so much it's not worth building anymore.

Wonderful news! I think I've brought this up before, but does anyone remember when the ride was first "announced"? Wasn't the teaser in ACE News about 10 years ago? Wow, what a long battle this has been. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

This is like the 10th appeal they've had, so it should really come as to no surprise.

I just wonder how much both Waldameer & *shudder* the Candela's are out on legal fees fighting this whole silly thing.

So is this the big 2007 project for the park now, or can they aim for 2006 still?

I could have sworn I saw that construction will begin next fall, making it a 2007 project.

You did eightdotthree. The article said construction could begin next fall and the coaster could open as early as 2007. Can't wait to see what the Gravity Group has in store for this design now. :)

Well the park should put up a sign saying when you pass the house screem realy LOUD! haha
THAT will sure teach them!

...I thought it was their campground, not residental home, that was the complaint.

The campground is a long term rental campground. People bring their campers and keep them there and I think a lot of people live there all summer.

Chuck, last I knew about Bells was that they were still going forward with the court battles to build a coaster at their currentl location. If they win all the battles you may see the CCI come to life. But as you may be aware, Bells is also looking to possibly move to Jenks for the new entertainment development that is going on there (Aquarium, Riverwalk mall, Indoor Water Park, Casinos, Etc.).

I have seen plans for the new park and the coaster isn't a CCI creation. They completed the business plan for the new park, and are currently looking for funding.
