Ravine Flyer II finally approved for Waldameer

Posted | Contributed by Rctycoon2k

Waldameer Park got a big boost Wednesday night when Millcreek Township's zoning board approved construction of the park's Ravine Flyer II roller coaster, specifying 17 conditions. The ride has been held up by regulations for years by local and state authorities.

Yes!!!!! I said the same thing when I read the headline. Finally!!!! I've been excited ever since the drawings were published in ACE News all those years ago.

The enormous perserverance on the part of the park is FINALLY rewarded...:)

There were some valid environmental concerns based on what I've read, but the park seemed more than willing to minimize the detrimental impact....:)

This is a big, big day, indeed. *thumbs up*

Now....can someobody point me to where those drawings are online? I know I've seen a layout or rendering somewhere years ago.

While this is indeed a victory for Waldameer don't expect to see RFII anytime soon. The Candelas can appeal the ruling and the park has said it will take 3-4 years before it's ready to build.

And a lot can happen in 3-4 years.

I doubt they have the cash to sustain a long-term court battle. Besides, the way I understand it, you'd have to get a judge to issue an injunction to stop it for the time being, and that's like having to make a case before it goes to trial.
Jeff,

More importantly, if they want an injunction, they would have to put up a bond to cover any costs of delay if they were to eventually lose. That can get very expensive. For example, when Soldier Field, in Chicago, was being rebuilt, an organization, Friends of the Park, sued to get it stopped. However, they determined that they could not afford to get an injunction becuase the bond would be millions. However, they still continued the suit to stop them from demolishing a stadium that was already demolished. - pretty pointless.

Seems like good business sense to me!

Congrats to Paul Nelson and his determination. This is very exciting news.*** This post was edited by Rob Ascough 4/29/2004 3:23:22 PM ***

What does a "Coaster Crossing" sign look like?Is it like a deer crossing?I've never been to that area, but some of the requirements seem a little silly at first glance.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I can't wait! I knew Nelson could do it!

From the layout picture in the newspaper it looks really neat. Finally something better than the old, rotting away Bluestreak in northwestern Pa.

Also, when this coaster starts running, Conneaut Lake's future doesn't look too good competition wise.

Nelson has stated... "If fate allows, we are to start construction in 2005..."
Maybe this will still hold? :)
Rctycoon2k,

I recall hearing 2006 or 2007.

PerrysburgGuy asks..

What does a "Coaster Crossing" sign look like?

How about this?

AJF - can you supply a link to the layout?
RM,

I like it.

I can see a coaster crossing T-Shirt being a big hit. Does any park have some type of sign like that? Or for that matter, a coaster that travels over a road?
Most excellent... here's hoping this thing'll get built! Annddd AJF... a link to the layout would be wonderful. Also if you can't find a place to put it online, scan it in and send it to billbrandt(at)adelphia.net (replacing (at) with @, of course), and I can get it on the web for you, I'd love to see it and I'm sure others would too.
