Disney will not be establishing a park in Dubai or, in fact, anywhere in the Middle East anytime soon, said James Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts speaking to Khaleej Times, during the IAA Congress. He said that while the Middle East doesn't have the characteristics for a successful park, India and China might.

Doesn't have the characteristics? Tell that to Dubailand.

Yes that is a picture of the Vortex at Paramount's Kings Island. Wonder what its doing on that site are they moving the Vortex or was this just some clips art someone had?

It's not that a Disney style park would not work in the middle east, it's that Disney cannot compete with Dubailand. The amount of money they are spending is just astronomical. If it wasn't for the location, Dubailand would pretty much be a lock for one day eclipsing Disney World for the 1# most visited theme parks.*** This post was edited by DBJ 3/26/2006 11:12:04 AM ***

That photo of Vortez has appeared in A LOT of places including many Six Flags park maps/guides. It's a stock photo not owned by Paramount. Only enthusiasts would recognize [or care] what coaster it is.

Moosh, next you'll be telling us that's not a real dinosaur shown there in Eco-tourism World. :)
It's pretty obvious that Dubailand has official backing from the powers that be, and Disney realizes what kind of roadblocks and harassment anyone hoping to provide any competition would face.
Who's doing this again, "Only In Dubai"?

Only 9 years to wait too.
I don't really see a Disney park there right now though. How well would Main Street USA go over?*** This post was edited by fathorse 3/28/2006 10:46:24 AM ***
