Here's a video classic for you. It's the original promotional video sent to the press prior to the construction of Cedar Point's Raptor. The thing to keep in mind is that most people, particularly in Cedar Point's market, had never seen an inverted coaster. Through a combination of early computer animation and a few words from Claude Mabillard himself, the video tries to show the world what to expect. The video is in Guide to The Point's ride section.

Cool video Jeff. I enjoyed the promos to hype this coaster. Did CP fans know about Batman:TR at SFGAm when this video came out? I know CP fans were pumped about this coaster and I will tell you that we were the same here in Chicago to experience this first of a kind ride. This coaster creation blew us away. Long live Walter & Claude.

"DONT FIGHT IT, RIDE IT",,,,RAGING BULL
This video came out BW (before Web), so enthusiasts really only had books and such to go by. I was interested, but really not all that familiar with what coasters had to offer. I don't think anyone in the Cedar Point market, except obviously the Chicagoans (if you even consider that a part of CP's market) had heard of or knew what Batman was about. Certainly the media didn't know, and that's who the video was really targeted to.
I think we take it for granted that the Web has done so much for enthusiasts! Who knew in 1993 that we'd some day fire up our computers and get daily coaster news?

Yea Batman was exciting as anything could be. I remember 3-4 hour waits when it was built. its a great ride but the raptor is also great in its own way. i think people that have wridden both agree that raptor is a little slow flowing compared to batman. batman moves fast and is probably the best flowing rides ever built.
batman is incredibly re-rideable too!
raptor discourages me however with the long waits and that last hard turn into the station brakes
but anyway great video!
Now only if they could get a magnum xl-200 video!

I love them both, Batman is nonstop intensity, and i like Raptor's Midway setting, and rhe cobra roll is cool.

yea to inverted roller coasters!
:-)
Pretty cool. Did anybody catch the mf one?
if you notice when its going through the island it goes backwards and skips the larger turn.
2 0 0 2...A monster will rise in Sandusky...
My cousin worked for the ad agency on the raptor commercial that aired.
my friend from my band class is in the original MF add. He's on the coaster when they have a shot of the on board camera. The mf add is one of my favorites!
I will be one of the passengers on the MF train when the Discovery Channel aires a new coaster show on Memorial Day
hmm, so basically, Raptor is a bird pissed off because its home got chopped down huh?
BTW: The video makes all these claims about how Raptor shattered all these records for inverts. Wasn't Raptor only the SECOND inverted design? (or did PGA's Top Gun come before it?)
