Quick opinion on Kennywood 10-21/22

Obviously nobody knows for sure but others are more familiar with Kennywood's operation habits. I was planning to take a trip with my young adult children for Saturday. Rain in the forecast, amounts and frequency predicted keeps changing slightly but rain has stayed in the forecast. Sunday weather looks better but I would prefer not to drive home from Pittsburgh and then get up and go to work first thing the morning after. Also taking into consideration that if Saturday's weather is less than stellar more locals may just wait until Sunday so crowds may even out with a Saturday. Are there any quirks to Kennywood that I should also be taking into consideration when deciding? So far I'm leaning toward just going Saturday and it just is what it is when we get there, if the weather is questionable maybe there will be less people but I'm more familiar with how Cedar Point operates with rain than Kennywood although t has rained briefly both times I've been there so far.

They closed last Saturday but it was an all day wash out. I don't think that's a concern for the 21st but it's worth considering. It hasn't been very busy this season so I don't think crowds will be a concern.

Keep in mind that Racer and Steel Curtain are both closed.

It’s hard to me to think of a time when I visited the park that it didn’t rain. And having said that, I don’t remember anything particular about operations. The coasters with old fashioned braking systems would probably close…
If you’ve been following along I’m sure you recall the list of complaints people have about Kennywood and their early closures due to 1) “bad” weather, or 2) lack of attendance. Since it’s Halloween time and KW has a good haunt I’d venture a guess that they’ll do their best to remain open. And as far the crowd goes you should expect the place to be busy. KW is a “local” park and people show up just because they can. And if it closes for some reason that’s fine because they can come back tomorrow.
I’m not from there, I’m just conjecturing, so maybe a local will chime in here.
Edit to add: the previous reply prompted me to check the website and the list of rides scheduled for all day/night operation looks kind of puny. There’s a list of family rides that close at 6. Exterminator Lights Out!, Phantom, Skyrocket, T’bolt, and Jack Rabbit appear to be the coasters.

Past experience is that if the rain is light they stay open, although depending what the gate is that day it's not unheard of that if the park is nearly empty they would close early. However after the macro burst incident they keep a close eye on the weather fronts heading for the area.. The likelihood of a meteorological event of this type occurring this time of year are nil.

Saturdays can be unbearably busy, and the rain is scheduled to stop in the morning. It's also supposed to be chilly, so YMMV.

Kiddie rides close and the haunts start to open at 6pm, but the outdoor ones won't open until it's dark enough.

There is a line skipping pass available if you want that option.

I thought Racer had opened back up, I must have heard wrong. I'm more of a Thunderbolt fan so that's OK it will be good enough. Looks like my only must ride that closes early is Old Mill. I think we're most likely going to go tomorrow and hope for the best and hit the rides most important to us first and see where the day takes us. One person on the trip has never been there before so even if it's not the full experience it's still a first for them and a road trip with roller coasters is more fun than doing laundry on a Saturday even with a little rain or crowds.

Racer opened for a bonus weekend but it's closed again.

We went yesterday. Got there around 1pm. Slight bit of drizzle in the first hour which affected nothing and then perfect weather until we left between 7:30 and 8. The only thing we expected to ride but didn't was Exterminator. We waited for a while in the outside que and then they closed it and it never reopened. Our only snag was not realizing the bag policy for fall was different than last time we had been there so I had to reorganize and send my son back to the car with stuff and my slightly too big cross body bag and buy a fanny pack in the park that I'll probably never use again but it was worth it for the peace of mind that my phone, wallet and car key were safe. I know for next time now. It was kind of irritating to notice as the day went on a decent amount of people with bags much larger than I was allowed to bring into the park that they clearly had not purchased in the park. Either security got less ambitious through the day or those people knew ahead of time too hide the bags under a hoodie or something until they got in. Overall we had an excellent day. Phantom's Revenge in the dark was crazy. The Taco Bell on S. Braddock by 376 was the slowest one I have ever been to in my life, just an FYI for anyone wanting to have lunch before they enter the park who is concerned about time.
