Questions about Knotts Operating Schedule

I have a convention to attend the third week of January in San Diego and would like to visit Knotts at some point. I have been watching their website and waiting for the operating hours to be posted for next year to no avail. I sent an email to customer service and got a reply that basically said "the operating hours will be posted in the future". DUH!

Well I need to book flights soon so I am wondering if anyone can tell me if Knotts is open in January 2014, and if so, is it weekends only?

I'm pretty sure Knott's is open every day year round except Thanksgiving and Christmas... You may come across rides being down for rehab/maintenance as there is no real off-season to do that, but the park should be open. Have fun! We went in 2003 and really enjoyed the park, and they've really added a lot since then!

But then again, what do I know?

Yes, Knott's has traditionally been open year round. January will undoubtedly have significant refurbs/rehabs, meaning closures and/or one train operation.

Crowds midweek will be minimal, like "why are they even open" minimal. weekends could be busy, but whatever crowds are there could be magnified by reduced hours and/or single train operations

Also, the MLK holiday is in January (roughly the time you mentioned for your trip) and could impact crowds dramatically.

I would not count on Windseeker at this time.

The funny thing is, I was there this time last year and Windseeker was down then...

Would be nice to know whether the secured glasses policy has been changed. It was rumored for the longest time...would really make a difference in my day there, and I don't think I'm the only one.

Thanks for the help everyone! This helps me immensely.

And ironically, WoF is my home park, so I will be riding Windseehawk later this spring.

A few years ago we went to So.Cal for a mid-January vacation and chose some random Tuesday and Wednesday for Disney. It was so crowded we couldn't move, especially Disneyland, and we were surprised and frustrated. So it was great relief to pull into Knott's parking lot on Thursday to find we were one in all of, maybe, 50 cars. Yay! What we didn't know was that parked out of sight, around the corner, were around 150 or so school busses. It seems the entire Orange County school system had chosen that day to celebrate their honor students and families with a day at the park. Oh, no.

Fortunately the park was still doable (if you like hoards of teenagers) as the students seemed content to mill around and visit rather than do a lot of riding. We got on everything at least twice. The park closed early that day, and the party continued into the evening with DJs, bands, and dance areas for the kids. We got Mrs. Knott's fried chicken and left, full of boysenberries and content with our visit.

Have a great time, I'm jealous. We have tentative plans to go either to the Rose Bowl or the National Championship game (or not, depending on how things go for the Buckeyes this Saturday...) and I've already decided the parks around there wouldn't be good to even attempt any time that week. Locals? Am I wrong?Maybe if we have a couple of days to kill we could try Valencia. SFMM may be a better bet? I know it's a long haul up there and back, but I haven't been to that park in years and years.

As far as Windseeker, I was up at the Farm last weekend, and from what I saw, and the reports that I'm getting, it will be but a memory by this weekend. When planning to visit Knotts in the winter months, bear in mind that when it rains they will shutter the park, even when there are people in it. If it starts raining the night or morning before they are scheduled to open, they won't open.

Thanks for that info Dutchman!

I went a few years ago in January, and for some reason I seem to remember that Knott's was only open Thursday-Sunday, but I could be wrong. In any case, the place was a ghost town (no pun intended). All of the rides were walk-ons.

The only down-side is that's maintenance season, and when I went that time, neither Xcelerator nor Timber Falls were operational.

I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.

Wow, I didn't know that. Good thing it looks like tomorrows rain will be significantly less than originally predicted. We're planning to go Sunday.

I had the opportunity to visit Knotts on Friday, the 17th and had an absolutely great time. Most of the rides were a walk on or a couple train wait at the most.

I have one question about Xcelerator. Is the seat belt the same length for TTD? I have been gaining some weight over the last couple of months and thought I wouldn't fit into the belt since it was growing tight on TTD the last time I rode it two summers ago. To my surprise, the belt on XLR8R had about an inch of slack. Can anyone confirm it is the same?
