Questions about Cannonball Run and Waterville USA (AL)...

I ran a search and found very little about the ride except for old CCI litigation and hurricane damage...

Have any of you guys been on this ride (Cannonball Run)? Is it worth a trip? On my way back from Georgia to Vegas this summer I’m considering hugging the Gulf of Mexico. I’m just wondering what the opinions are about this place. Any information about the---ride/park/area/places to stay or not/places to eat or not/etc---is well appreciated.

Again, I ran a search and found nothing useful. I thought maybe somebody might know something or at least want to discuss something a little different on here…

I'm pretty sure Peabody has been on it. I mean, thats just a guess, since its his site, but.....

i'm not sure what to put here..

wrong coaster corkscrewy.
I took a stop at the park last Memorial Day weekend on a trip down to check out the now defunct Miracle Strip. We did both the waterpark (which was a little on the smallish side but still had some decent slides) and took a couple of laps on the Cannonball. We were there on a sunday afternoon and barely anyone was riding it. Actually both rides we took (a front and a back) were by ourselves so who knows how it would have run with a full train. It was an allright ride. I don't remember much in terms of any kind of airtime or anything but it did have a have one of those neat little CCI lateral moves towards the end of the ride. It also shuffled pretty badly through the turnaround.

We were just in the area for the day, before heading off to Panama City Beach, so I couldn't really comment on the area too much (we stayed the night before in Mobile). I will say the drive along US-98 to Florida was one of the most beautiful I've ever done. The Gulf sits to your right pretty much the entire time.:)

I stopped at Waterville in Gulf Shores on my way from SFNO over to Miracle Strip for their closing night. Cannonball Run is a decent mid-size out and back. I rode in front and back. Like Pale Rider said, I don't remember a lot of airtime on it either. The back turnaround was shuffling a lot. It's worth a stop though I'd say.

Gulf Shores has very nice blindingly white sandy beaches and is more family oriented than Panama City Beach. However, PCB has much clearer water. One tip, if you get in the water beware of jellyfish! There was a small FEC with flying scooters, a Ferris wheel, some other flats, and a steel kiddie coaster in Gulf Shores right across from the beach too. I think it might have closed down at the end of last season.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
Thanks guys...I'm thinking this is the route I will return from GA. Then I'll hit SFNO so I can knock out 2 places I've never been. Too bad the Miracle Strip closed. I was lucky enough to go to this park back in 7th grade on a summer vacation.
I go to Gulf Shores a good bit. If you are going to stay a couple of days, I recommend the Phoenix condos. They are on the beach w/ incredible views. Try eating at the Back Porch for some great seafood.

As far as the Cannon Ball goes, it is worth doing if you are in Gulf Shores, but I would not make a special trip just to ride it. It is fun, but nothing special.
