Question for RCT2 and some RCT3

Ok, I need some help because this is beginning to drive me nuts. Now I just got a new computer(XP) and I'm trying to reinstall RCT2, but for some reason, when I want to play it and the autorun pops up and I click on Play, nothing happens after that. I mean it has actually played like 2 or 3 times out of the 20 times I've tried it, but now it's like it ignored it or something. I'll be clear, the disc is a bit scratchy, but come on, alot of scratched discs work. I have the right requirements I believe. So I was wondering if anyone knew what my problem might be.

RCT3 - This has really disturbed me. I install it on my computer and when I click play in the autorun, a box pops up saying "Please insert disc that isn't a backup disc" or something close to that, and I understand what that means, means that the disc seems like its a burnt copy, because it does have a few scatches on it, and theres one place on the disc that has a few scratches in the same place. BUT LISTEN TO THIS. I went over my friends house tonight to test the disc out on his to see if I really need a new disc or not, and the game played...

I have really no idea what the deal is here. If it worked on his, why can't it work on mine? It clearly makes no sense whatsoever. So if you know anything thats wrong, please let me now!

The scratches are probably your problem. Some drives will be able to focus on the pits and lands of the disc through the scratches while others will not.

Buy a Disc Doctor and hope for the best.

Theres no reason why RCT2 shouldn't work on your computer. Try reinstalling the game, and like Mike Darling said, try a disc doctor.

As far as RCT3 goes, did you just buy a Dell? I bought a Dell last fall, about a month before RCT3 came out. I had it loaded with the best possible video card and memory and all of that. It turned out I had the same error about inserting a backup disc.

The reason for this is, the security on the CD itself won't 'get along' with the security on the CD drive. It's just something wrong with the drive. I researched this for about a month trying to get it to work. Someone online helped me to get a patch to allow to to run it without a CD, but the game would rarely start and would crash, and I couldn't update it, reinstall it, or download updates for it.

In short, here's basically your only answer, if you are willing to spend the money:

The Memorex external CD drives work with RCT3. That's what I've been using and everything has been fine. It's easy to install, just hook the USB cable into the back of the PC and you are good to go.

Any of the Memorex ones seem to work, you should be able to find it at an Officemax or Staples, or any computer/office store.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, at least now I know some of the problems and solutions for them. Yes I did get a new Dell, just a few months ago in April. I'll sure take your advice and probably check out a Disc Doctor and Memorex external CD drive.

HOWEVER, I did forget to mention that when I installed RCT3, it did work the for the first time and it went well so far, it was just then the next day (disc still in drive), I want to play it, that is when that crazy Backup message came up. *** Edited 6/30/2005 5:50:59 PM UTC by NiTroFrEaK***
