If some Schwarzkopf looping coasters such as Mindbender, Shockwave, Viper, etc. can operate with a lap bar only, then why can't ALL looping coasters operate with a lap bar only? Why are over the shoulder restraints necessary on some coasters and not others? Also, the only loopers that I can think of that have a lap bar only are Schwarkopf's. Do any exist that are'nt Schwarzkopf's?
I think it's because most of them carry enough speed through the loop the centrifical force takes over, it doesn't slow down in the loop like an arrow. And also because i have never seen a shwartz with a corkscrew that can throw you from side to side(hence headbanging).

Phoenix-A great town and a great coaster
Another looper without over the shoulder harnesses is Son of Beast at Paramount`s Kings Island
What about those Pinfari loopers like the one at Moreys. I never saw one so don't know.

Not Too Shabby For A Summer
Desert Storm at Castles & coasters uses only lap bars. It's not a Schwarzkopf unless I'm mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong). Once again, the centrifugal force.
I believe a worthy solution to the headbanging is to retrofit all the Arrow trains (I know, it's about as likely as it is possible) with the new ArrowBATic restraints.

The Pinfari looper isn't at Morey's but at Funtown Pier in Seaside, NJ. It is like a wild mouse but with a little longer trains and a loop. However, it has OSRs.

A Green Machine is rising at SFO!
Some areas will not allow looping coasters to be built without them. In LA county, any coaster with an inversion is required to have OTSR. That's why California Screamin' has them even though they are totally unnecessary.

Life's too short! Let's go ride some coasters!
DCA is not in LA County. The Disney compound is in Orange County, always has been always will be.

And im sure there insurance coverage has something to do with it.
Simcoaster, you force me to ask the same question I must always ask when someone says there's a legal restriction: Can you quote "chapter and verse" so that I can go look it up?
My opinion, of course, is that no coaster I've ever ridden needs shoulder bars.
One of these days I'll put my arguments against shoulder bars up on the web someplace...

The only type you would need an OTSR is an invert, but that's a given. It's like saying a Standup can go with just a lap bar.
The only time I have ever felt my shoulder give pressure against an OTSR were on CP's Corkscrew's 2nd hill, and Steel Phantoms 2nd. Any inversion there was no pressure on them, besides the fact t I am tall and my shoulders are always pressing against the OTSR's which is another reason TO GET RID OF THEM. I think the headbanging people experience are a result of these Poor OSTR's and not the ride. You can't bang your head on a lap bar.
Heck, on most coaster I feel restraint's aren't even necessary.
