Question about differences in transfer tracks.

Good Morning everyone,

Why are some transfer tracks and maintence tracks, covered up suchs as on B+M's like Talon, Superman UF , i realize its to protect the trains from weather, but then why are some maintenance tracks on Scream at SFMM or Xcelerator at KBF and TTD at CP all open and not coverd? Is this because of the small and limited works space that is needed to work on these coaster trains. Also how do they prevent the weather such as rain get to them at night.

Thank you for your time,

Wood Coaster Fan

Generally all B&M's are covered and Intamin masterpieces are not. I don't really know why, I guess B&M is looking to prolong their train life.

I don't think it's one company over another. It's all what the park wants. For example, Mantis doesn't have a covered transfer and that's a B&M. Heck, Disaster Transport, an indoor coaster, has it's storage track outside. There really isn't any "rule of thumb" when it comes to this sort of thing other than what the park wants.

Heck, the storage shed for mantis is the blue tarps the 3rd train is stored in under the transfer track. It looks like the train that sits outside on DT is for looks, that thing is so sunbeaten i doubt it ever moves anyone confirm this? Also parks like Knotts and SFMM have much nicer weather year round, whereas the CP has to deal with much harsh weather. Also the parks take into consideration if they have a large maitence house where they can work on the train.

Do all B&M's have the sliding transfer track?

Do all intamins have the sliding switch track section?

Is there some consistency?

Yes the third car on Mantis runs it just has not been put on to the track.

Not all Intamins have a sliding "switch" for transferring...Xcelerator and Dragster both move trains on a section of track similar to how B&M does it.

I'm guessing that space plays a large role in most cases. Think of MF's layout and try to find a section of track as long as one train that could be used for transferring.
