Question about ALL B&Ms

Since coasters like SFMM's Flashback and Goliath use track similar to that on B&Ms, do they roar as well?

Batman the Escape at SFAW has similar track ala Flashback (both old style Intamin) and it has a VERY loud roar. I can hear it just about anywhere on the west side of the park...which it's a small park, so that's not surprising.

Hmmm. My two favorite B&M's are two of the quietest - Kraken and Talon. Both are ridiculously smooth.

I actually prefer the quiet. Something very creepy about it - especially Kraken which is just SO quiet it's unbelievable.

I was always under the impression that the spine is what gets "dampened" - it just kind of makes sense. What else would "roar" like that other than the largest, most hollow, air filled section of the structure.

The rails would be small in diameter and make a much higher pitched "ringing" noise, but I suspect their thickness in comparison to their diameter negates any noise they'd make. The supports would be firmly anchored in concrete and the Earth itself. Those aren't resonating. My general understanding of sound dictates it's be the spine that resonates creating the "roar".

I've always wondered where the sand is. Is it in the supports or the spine of the rails or both or all or where?

Yes, Flashback is very loud (that's why it is closed during the summertime/Hurricane Harbor operation period, because it's built on the SFMM/SFHH border.) Goliath is loud, however - not as loud as the park's The Riddler's Revenge which is deafening.

Cracks me up how I've heard so many times from "experts" waiting in line for PGA's Top Gun that PGA added the roar as part of the ride's theming to make it sound like a jet engine. Clueless.
