Queen of the Prairie gets a new lease on life

Posted | Contributed by stockadeboy

This story was in the Saturday edition of the Wichita Eagle. The Queen of the Prairie, an 80 foot tall woodie, is getting an upgrade of sorts for the upcoming season. The 52-year old roller coaster is getting a new paint job as well as considerable structural wood replacement and refurbishment. Joylan Amusement Park is located in Wichita, Kansas.

This is GREAT news. The Joyland woody is a wonderful under-rated out-and-back that I had the pleasure of riding a few years ago. Glad to hear the park is putting some money into it.
Its always great news when a coaster receives some TLC. Thanks to Joyland and their Roller Coaster for what they offer us enthusiasts, and here's hoping for their continued success. Its wonderful to see a small park so prosperous.
The article also said that QOTP is a ACE coaster classic. Maybe I will feel ambitious and type up the article and post it on my website, since you have to pay $1.95 to read anything on the Wichita Eagle archives website.

Im from Kansas, boy do we need some roller coasters in Kansas.
As far as I know, the coaster was always called (and still is called) the Roller Coaster.
The article, however, said that the name of the coaster was "Queen of the Prairie"

I think the coaster's nickname is Queen of the Paire but, unless it has changed this year, it's name is Roller Coaster. Might be analogous to everybody calling Magnum XL-200 Maggie.
I've been to the park already this year, it is Roller Coaster -- QOTP is a nickname or just something the paper used.
