Pump It Up?

While I have never played DDR, I have played PIU quite often. It's practically the same idea as DDR but there is a 5th button (center). Anyone play this?
...all the time.

Most people (like the majority of people who post to this forum...) will say that it's an inferior knockoff of DDR. That's their opinion.

I, OTOH, prefer it to DDR because I think it's easier to move around on (and/or freestyle to, if you do that sort of thing) and I enjoy K-Pop music (which I feel has a better variety than DDR's majority of techno-ish music).

Granted, there are things I don't like (song choosing interface being the most blatant), but overall I enjoy it as much as DDR, if not more, since it's what I started on.

Then again, I think we have about every mix conceivable around here, with the exception of Extra.

Actually, there is one more major difference in the game besides the center button...in DDR the arrows are left right and up down instead of in the corners, just in case you didn't know that.

I am one of the DDR people who has a tough time with PIU, even though the PIU machine is closer to me than the DDR one, mainly because I never played PIU until I could beat a lot of catas in DDR, and thus was already used to DDR and didn't really care much to mess this up learning a game where the arrows were in corners.

But hey, if it's your thing, more power to ya. Personally I think it's whichever one you got started on that you will get good at....

I agree with Natalie.......I got decent on DDR and then I tried PIU and uh.....riigghhtt....

I can completely understand that. I started out on PIU and got pretty good, although I don't go crazy freestyle I can do some songs on the hard level but due to my girth I can't move my legs THAT fast! Hahah.

I do like both machines though, although I am not THAT good, at all, at DDR!

Either way, they're a great workout and are SO much fun. I like it when you're doing an easy song but to people who aren't used to it are watching you like "Um..... how do you do that?!" Lol

Even though Pump It Up was the first game of that kind that I have played, I didn't like it much. The only song that I did like had a difficulty level of 5, which was the Beethoven song (Don't remember the actual title). Once I started to play Dance Dance Revolution (4th plus was my first) I was hooked on that right away. Still am to this day.
