Public Transit Advice: Louisville Airport to SFKK

Group, thanks to Delta reducing service and unilaterally rearranging my flight schedule for the worse, I now have 5 hours to kill in Lousisville, which I figure gives me 3 hours I can use.

I know that SFKK is REAL close to the airport but am wondering about transportation options?

Is it walkable? About how far? Directons?

Public Transit Options? I know taxis are readilly available, and I also know there is an $8.25 minimum to/from the airport. (which is a $10 minimum if you remember to tip your driver. And I would imagine I would have to pay the $4.00 toll unless there is a pickup areaoutside the parking toll plazas? ) I'm looking for ways to economize this side trip.

Park admission doesn't bother me, thats what the good old season pass is for, those short stops.

I woudl say it may be walkable. It's not even a half a mile. I am however pretty sure you woudl have to cross some very busy streets and a taxi or a Bus would be a lot better bet.

I woudl think the $4 parking fee woudl be waived for a Taxi.

I am 95% sure you could just take the Bus.

S:ROS blew me away

I wouldn't recommend walking across I-264. :)

It's pretty much right across the Interstate; just follow the ramps that lead to the Fair/Expo Center. You don't have to get on or off the Interstate but you do have to cross it on some ramps (which have no walkways). I'm not sure if there's a TARC bus that goes over there, but you could probably get a cab. It's less than a mile, I think.

Or, you could just get on one of the hotel shuttles (we walked from the Sleep Inn), but the area around SFKK isn't very pedestrian friendly. A taxi would probably be the best choice.

Heck, the park with "the bridge" isn't very pedestrian friendly when I think about it.

Hey Dave,

Is this going to be on a weekend? I could just come pick you up and drive you over there! I wouldn't mind a few more rides on Greezed Lightnin' (providing it's running...it was only up for about 30 minutes yesterday).

Thanks for the tip, whomever mentioned TARC.

I just reviewed the TARC website and there is a bus from the airport drop off area that goes down Crittenden. (Thats the road that runs behind Twisted Sisters, right?. TARC advertises that it serves SFKK, and I don't mind walking up the driveway.

Better still, the timetables look good, and it says it only cost 50 cents each way.

If you have maybe 3 hours available and want to get any amount of riding in. I would strongly recommend that you take a taxi there since it will be fastest. If you waste any amount of time traveling, you will have no time to ride. Really not that expensive if you compare it to the cost of operating your car for the 100+ mile trips to amusement parks that we often take.

You might want to check on the best way to get a cab for the return trip. There is a convention center right next to the park that may be good for getting a cab..

Just take the shuttle that runs from the airport to the Executive West or another hotel next to SFKK. 9 times out of 10 they are free and never check for verification of your staying there.

You would still have to walk from the hotel to the main entrance, but at least it saves you a walk from the airport.
