Psyclone Improved?

Just curious if any of you share my new and improved opinion of Psyclone at Magic Mountain.  I rode it a couple of weeks ago, and it seems like it not only didn't give me the beating it used to, but I actually caught some nice airtime!

Also, I wanna know who's got my name out there!  I tried to register as Mike Stigall, but was told that name was in use!  I'm not upset, just surprised.  I didn't think Stigall was such a common name!

The first drop is definitely smoother but the rest of the ride is just as painful as ever!

Psyclone is quite simply the worst woodie I have ever ridden. I think it rode worse this year than last. However, this could be to do with where I sat. Last year I rode in the front, this year in the middle.

The first drop is a lot smoother, but the rest of the ride shook me about all over the place, and everyone was complaining about it when they got off.

...everyone was complaining about it when they got off...

That is what I usually hear at the end as well; not this last time.  People were chearing!  I know you don't believe it, but it's true!

Unless GOD himself was running Psyclone that day that's they only way I would believe it lol.
Yes the first drop is smoother but the rest of the ride seams like it has gotten worse. Have Psyclone even had it's track oiled, is the wheel bearings even packed in grease b/c it feels like there metal to metal heck is the wheels even round, you would swear they were square lol.
I have never been on a coaster that was braked to death but yet still beat the hell out of ya until I met Psyclone. Imo it has got to be the worst wooden coaster running today, I don't even think flying in a shopping cart at 50 mph over rocks would be as painfull and rough as a ride on that sorry excuse for a wooden coaster called Psyclone.
All I know is what ever they did to the first drop they need to do it to the rest of the coaster and I mean pronto, I will not be riding it again untill they do, I'm not going to indanger the future of my coaster riding by getting my back brutalized by Psyclone lol

There's not much you can do with Psyclone, the B&M trains are just not going to work on that ride. They are too heavy and have just torn the coaster apart.

Would new trains be better then?  Trains like PTC's  or the lighter (from what I know) Gerstlauer's?

This was brought up earlier. They are in the process of slowly re-tracking Psyclone using steel girders to reinforce the track I believe. They will gradually re-track it during the off season for 2-4 years until they have re-tracked it completely.
Well that is stupid they should re-track it all once. Hell with those heavy arse B&M trains by the time  they re-track the first turnaround the first drop will be ruined again. By they time the re-track the drop after the first turnaround the turnaround will be ruined and so on and so on lol.

Psyclone needs MAJOR rehab, and new trains. Gerstlauers would be nice.

I agree with all of you, in large part.  Psyclone is most definitely not the model wooden coaster.  I am personally amazed that Six Flags doesn't see that they could save a large amount of cash (that could go to dropping food prices??) by just replacing those darn trains!!  Of course I realize they would still need to repair the damage that has been done, but, they could save on these rediculous annual (or is it daily!?) repairs!

Gotta disagree on the G-trains guys.  From my experience, I believe they run MUCH better on out-and-back type rides with minimal laterals.  Rides with intense lateral forces, whether twister or terrain coasters, seem to have trouble running the Gerstlauers, which is (I think) why HW has moved on over to PTC.  Wise move, IMO, and I think PTC's, a little retracking, and a LOT of grease would leave everyone cheering for the Psyclone!!!

I have no problem whatsoever with PTCs. but they would have to be custom built just for Psyclone. I don't know, would it be worth it  for SFMM to spend that kind of money for a ride that would *still* be slightly below average? Or would it be?

Maybe SF should clone the trains from the SFWoA Big Dipper (they were built in house?) They can really give a good ride.

I think ANY money spent TRYING to make Psyclone a better ride is a waste. It quite simply wont be good enough for people to get on it for repeat rides. I for one wont ever ride it again. It is THAT bad IMO. And yes, I did ride it this year after the retracking work and I still hated it, even more than I remembered. If I want to ride a wooden twister I'll drive the extra 45min and pay another admission for Knotts' GhostRider. Worth the drive and $$$ on its own.

I think its actually fun (call me crazy).  Theres never a wait so I rode it like 5x in a row.  Back seat is the best.
