Pros/Cons: Flyers, Floorless

I'm not *quite* as experienced as the "other" jc, but I'd GLADY take a floorless over anyone's flyer. I, much like outkast, just didnt like the whole hanging bit. My favorite parts of the Vekoma rides where the parts when you are on your back (the loop being *the* moment). I'd ride my *least* favorite floorless (today that title goes to Medusa-east) over a flyer a hundred times.

And redman, people know the difference between a looper and a hyper. For Pete's sake give folks credit! Dont believe me? Go over to SFGAdv and see how *very few* would say NITRO is just like Medusa. Hell there are a great deal of people who would ride NITRO but not Medusa simply because Medusa "goes upside down". Conversely, that is a turn "on" for others!

And krax, you need to start checking fares to San Antonio. S:KC was by far better than the rest (though I haven done Medusa-West). S:KC is my thrid favorite looping coaster behind only Montu and Sonny!

The problem with Flyers is that they cannot do a wide range of inversions and elements. The best couple for a flyer I've seen are the Pretzel Loop and the Vertical Loop. Otehr than that, the drops can't be steep, the helix's can't be sharp, and inversions cannot be to wacky. That I think is why Flyers seem so boring. They can't pull off to many elements.

If you like Wicked Twister in the back, does that mean you like to get screwed in the rear?

I have rode S:UF and X-Flight and to tell you the truth they are great but really I think they are great beause they are different. The best ride at SFWOA is BKF in the back row. Air, Intensity, Craziness awesome ride.

The Beast and Night, They go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly

Well I've ridden one Vekoma flyer and one Floorless. Out of those I think I liked the floorless better. BTW, the flyer was Stealth and the floorless was Medusa West. I thought Stealth was very cool but the ride itself wasn't wasn't that intense. On the other hand, Medusa is one of my top 10 favorite steel coasters.

I 100% agree. Kraxel, you SHOULD be checking fares to San Antonio. Although Ive only ridden one other floorless besides SKC, (BKF), I can tell you SKC blows away BKF in every way.

I never found floorless to be much different front inverted. I like Flying more.

Well ya'll, come into my kitchen and be blown away by Medusa-W. You'll never enjoy another floorless more :)

i have ridden one floorless, kraken, and it was awesome! and one flyer, S:UF, which was great too, but i think kraken is better

I'm sorry... can someone refresh my memory.

What B&M regular sitdowns ARE out there. When I think of B&M's, I get floorless, hyper coasters (which have no loops), flyers, standups, and mostly inverted coasters. I'm just wondering if that's B&M's standard now for any sitdown looping coaster, just to make it floorless.

*shrug*?

Edit: Thnx for reminding me of those, mind just got clogged, couldn't think of any. :D

Sitdowns:

Incredible Hulk

Dragon Khan

Wildfire

Kumba

Wild Fire is like a floorless with a floor (feet dangle)

I haven't ridden any flyers yet, but I think Kraken beats the crud out of SKC, although both are awesome sweet rides!

If you build it, they will come!

Just an observation: some people seem to be pointing to the fact that the "flyers" aren't that intense. I don't think the parks intended them to be particularly intense. I think most parks just wanted a novel kind of coaster and were aiming to get punters to enjoy the sensation generated by the "flying" position.

It's also important to note that this is a relatively new genre of coaster and, no doubt, future versions will accomodate the more discerning thrill seekers! You have to walk before you can run, afterall! I would imagine that a much more spectacular one is on the way from B&M now they know they can get away with it! :)

I have ridden 3 flyers, (TFC, Batwing, and S:UF) and I think S:UF was the best one overall. Batwing was a great ride too, but as someone said before, it was rough, and I liked the layout of S:UF better. I hated TFC. It wasn't exciting and it was painfull.

I've been on 1 floorless, Kraken. I thought it was a nice coaster, but give me S:UF anyday.

The floorless effect is NOT lessened if you are not in the front seat. Floorless provides a great feeling of freedom. Your legs are completely unobstructed, it gives a great feeling of floating on air, just like B and Ms raised seat hypers. No knee banging on the coaster car. Its a great ride.

If too have only ridden one flyer "Batwing" The loop was the craziest loop ever. Massive G's. Medusa East is my favorite floorless and worlds above Batwing.

Yeah! I always thought Krypton Coaster looked AWESOME. The most impressive looking (and probably experience wise) of all the floorless coasters. But I also hear Kraken is a contendor for the best floorless coaster.

Well krax, Kraken *was* my favorite floorless (and seated steel looper in general) until I rode S:KC. While I though Kraken was *perfect* and still THE example of masterful engineering, S:KC had a bit of an "edge" to it. A grittiness that made it a bit more mean and nasty than Kraken. Kraken was like an aerobatic bi-plane, smooth and graceful. S:KC more like a fighter jet, just a manuverable, but a little more "snappy".

Having ridden two floorless coasters(Kraken, BKF) and only one flyer(XFlight) I can honestly say that I prefer the floorless. Xflight was an awesome coaster with an awesome concept but I cant see it as something I would get off and want to reride. That being said, I have never ridden a B&M flyer so my opinion might be different but based on the vids I have seen of the ride I would probably say not likely. I have to agree with Jeremy's assessment of Kraken being like riding on a graceful bi-plane. Unlike Jeremy though, that is what made the ride for me and put it near the top of my list and similar qualities in Raging Bull have put it on the top of my list.

Jeremy and I having the *exact* same opinions on coasters?! Not since he's ridden the Legend and had been disappointed by Titan has CBuzz seen anything like this!

Next you'll tell me Raptor is great, right? ;)
