Project: Gemini Coaster Question

I read that the new "Discoveryland" will feature an inverted coaster. Will this be a B&M? Are there any other coasters going to be constructed there?

All rumor at this point. Nothing more...

First off, remember that right now the PLANS call for an inverted coaster... whether or not it gets built is a whole other matter.
It will be themed to a rainforest, and plopped down in that big stretch of land between The Land, the Living Seas, and the monorail line.
No builder has been announced, but Disney has a pretty significant relationship with Vekoma (DLP's Rock & Roller Coaster, Space Mountain, Casey Jr. & Big Thunder, both Gadget's Go coasters, Goofy's Barnstormer, MGM's rock & roller coaster) so I would be surprised if they weren't at least approached about building it. Intamin's a possibility, too. Anyway, no Beemer they build could ever compete with Dueling Dragons right down the road.

As for other coasters, plans have been on and off the drawing board for years to build a Matterhorn or Fuji roller coaster in World Showcase. Fuji was deemed too sacred to the Japanese, and with Forbidden Mountain/Yeti going into AK you can pretty much count out the Matterhorn idea too.

I don't think it would be a Vekoma. Aren't they out of business?

No, they are alive and well.

I still wouldn't consider Vekoma as my first choie.

Your name's not Michael Eisner ;)

...it's also of note that Project Gemini and the proposed Rainforest Coaster are two separate projects. Gemini is Spaceship Earth's retrofit.

If anything comes of this, expect a Vekoma junior inverted coaster such as what's been popping up at the Paramount chain parks. It won't be a thrillride.

I dont think they would choose a Vekoma, too many people complain about the old hang and bangs. I doubt it would be a BM too because of Dueling Dragons. That leaves Intamin.

Chernabog,

Your pretty observent. I know my name isn't Michael Eisner....it's jkpark! -And your not an Imagineer. I wouldn't expect a Vekoma junoir inverted coaster to pop up, and no one else does eithier. My opinion is just as good as yours.

Have a nice day!

Ummm... actually, I think Chernabog is right on the money, so at least one other person does expect it.
I don't see a massive multi-looper fitting into the point of EPCOT. I don't think adding one massive thrill machine would increase EPCOT's attendance as much as re-focusing on the core audience that made it a success in the first place - families with a wide range of ages and interests looking for something to do together. The point of a new coaster there would be to have something else for the families to do besides 'boring' educational dark rides, not to draw in ACE conventions and teenagers on dates.

Ummm...actually, this is just a forum expressing a wide range of opinions. -And to tell you the truth, I don't see the project going all the way through. The economy is really NOT that great, and the company is considering to close their parks at least one day a week.

If you're speaking of the Rainforest Coaster, that is supposedly a Vekoma Junior Suspended coaster. Whatever it is, I've read a couple of places that it is infact a shelf model and not custom.

I think Vekoma is a great company.... it has managed to implant it's rides in nearly every amusement/theme park in the united states.... from inverts to flats vekoma's got it covered.... I LOVE YOU VEKOMA! ( =
Actually, Project Gemini is the entire future world rehab...Yes it includes the spaceship earth rehab and the coaster, but even offers more. There are various plans and no one knows for sure what is going on...

I always loved EPCOT. I haven't been in several years, but i hope that Disney sticks to their original intent as opposed to installing stock thrill rides. I believe I made another post awhile back commenting on how Disney seems to be in a hurry to put up new attractions and has lost a bit of it's original appeal - the "magic," if you will. I don't care if a Disney ride is thrilling - if i want thrilling I'll go to Six Flags 1 hour away. If i make the trek to Disney, i want to be Blown away!. Although well-themed, rides like California Screamin', Maliboomer, and Primevil Whirl don't provide me with an experience I couldn't get elsewhere. I almost wish Disney would build a new EPCOT, and leave the one that's there for nostalgia purposes (as boring as Cronkite's narration may be, who can forget their first ride on Spaceship Earth and riding down that slope backwards at the finale?)

With that said, I'm looking forward to the new Mission: Space, and haven't ridden Test Track yet, so with this new rainforest addition I'll be sure to make a trip in the near future.
