I was wondering if Franchises, like Six Flags, Paromount, Cedar Fair, Disney, if the profits their park gets go directly to them or if the actual park keeps the the money and pays a portion to the Franchise.
For example does Six Flags get all of the revenues from SFA (of any other of their themeparks for that matter) or does their parks just pay a Franchise fee?

What is life without geniuses?
Okay, this is pretty up to date, but as I work for an independent, I will try to be accurrate. Disney owns all of their parks in the US. They do lease hotels to major chains in Orlando. At Eurodisney, they collect the management contract, and they get a percentage of gate admissions and concession sales. It falls around the 15-25% area. So when you buy a $20 tshirt, about $5 is heading to corporate. The same deal goes through at the Disneyland in Japan. A group of land developers own the property and financed the construction of the attractions. This covers thier portion of 'royalties'. Even with all this revenue, the parks are still the minority in overall company revenue.
Cedar Fair outright owns all of their parks, except Camp Snoopy in the Mall of America. They too have a management contract. The Mall gets a flat rent plus a percentage of admission revenue. They have a pre-negotiated lease that the Knotts family did years ago. Whether Cedar Fair will continue on is another topic. To be profitable, Maintenence and management is merged with Valleyfair's operations. Cedar Fair is an outstanding investment. They operate with $0 debt. Cedar Fair also owns the hotels on company property. Radisson in Sandusky gets a franchise fee.
Busch Entertainment. They now own everything in the parks, but Sea World in Ohio and San Diego are on long term land leases. They (Busch) tried for years to purchase Geauga Lake, with plans to move the waterpark to a new location across the lake, but it went on deaf ears. San Diego is in no danger, they are great friends with their Mission Bay neighbors. The theme park division also operates without debt. When Sea World Inc. was on their own years ago, they operated under tremendous debt from the construction of Sea World Texas and the Boardwalk and Baseball farce.
Six Flags owns their parks now. No franchise fees.
