Problems at PKI this season.

About the Styx concert or whatever band. They don't want people to standup because people may start a mosh pit. This would be bad at a park and espcially ones with benches all around. THey have different concerts throughout the year when in some, you wouldn't standup. They aren't gonna remove them all just for one or two.

A mosh pit at a Styx concert? I cannot imagine 30-40 somethings audience diving... especially to Styx music.

A pit at Styx, why not? I've seen people stage dive at a Village People show.

Now chris, I'm not going to ask you *why* you were even AT a Village People's show.....

Well, I'll tell you anyway.

While I was at school at Purdue, the Village People played after an Indianapolis Ice hockey game.

Talk about a weird experience and mix of people: Hockey Fans, Village People fans, and people like me who just knew that it would be f'd up, and wanted to take it all in.

Even though I think Shaggy and Sean both gave reasonable responses about why one thing or another might have been happening, I'm going to pass along your post to the park if you wouldn't mind. I'm sorry they weren't performing up to your expectations, but I think overall the park has constantly increased the quality of operations ever since Paramount came in and I'm looking forward to what they have in store for 2003!

The only problems I've personally had all year was when PkI FaNaTiC and I were forced to ride Flying Eagles together once (of course its supposed to be a rule, but =^P) and that The Beast has been walk-on (It may just be me, but I've always liked waiting in this queue to build anticipation). See how picky I am? ;)

I worked at PKI many many years ago, when it was just KI. I have been to many concerts at "Timberdog" and I can share that even in the beginning, KI had issues with standees. When the GoGos and Flock of Hairgel (my age is showing) played, there were staff members assigned to do nothing but ask people to sit down. In 1990 or so, I saw the Ramones (yes the Ramones) at KI. At that show, the audience broke several of the aluminum bleechers by jumping/standing etc.

I do wonder though if they work the same with the Christian music concerts.

One thing I gotta say, an opening band for Styx???? It's 2002, not 1982.

My next reply:

I love the beast, TR, and think they actually have improved some.

Styx is a great band. The show they put on was excellent. I just think they should play elsewhere after they come to town. Why? I want to stand during the concert, especially when you can't see when people are moving up and down the aisles during the show. And the organizers should have put on an opening act, even if it was a popular classic rock band many teeny-boppers and hip-hoppers have never heard of.

Kris: This is a coaster-related board, stick to coaster topics, since Elder is #1 and you are my "cousin."

I understand fully about the limited operating days, even with those who go to church and/or college.

That vendor person who threw the cup in TRTR line was uncalled for, especially in front of a line full of people and a trash can next to him.

In other words, PKI is very safe, fun, affordable, and run well when compared to some others. I just think the place has fallen beneath some simple expectations. Never did I intend to rip apart the park, or any one person.

Danny,

I am almost 100% certain the park is reading this thread right now.

I really don't mean to be rude or anything, but "they should really plan better staffing"? I'm sorry, but it's no one's fault when people go back to school, and move into their dorms and such. And would you rather they keep all the crappy, UNSAFE ride ops that they fire due to policy violations just to keep the flying eagles open? If you know someone that needs a job, direct them to PKI's human resources department, because I dont like my ride being closed any more than you do! And if you aren't a big fan of limited operation days, than don't pay to get in! Oh, and I dont know what day you went, but double ride Tues ended 2 weeks ago.

For those of you planning a later trip, most of September is booked with company picnics, so be careful which weekend you attend.

I do realize that even this is beyond the park's control. Maybe it's because not too many want to work there, since it is a good distance for many. I thank those who do their hard work and keep us entertained. However, they can think of ways to better recruit and retain employees next year, just a thought.

And would you rather they keep all the crappy, UNSAFE ride ops that they fire due to policy violations just to keep the flying eagles open?

Such ride ops have no place working at an amusement park, ESPECIALLY PKI. I would rather skip my favorite flat ride than have (name of someone you think is really dumb) running it.

If you know someone that needs a job, direct them to PKI's human resources department, because I dont like my ride being closed any more than you do!

Unfortunately, I don't, because I have moved on to a co-op job where people don't ask me where the elevators are in the office tower (just as people asked me "Do you get wet on Congo Falls? or "Where is the Eiffel Tower?)

And if you aren't a big fan of limited operation days, than don't pay to get in!

Most of all, I am telling you all that a couple of favorites may not be open. But then again, that's common at other parks as well.

I have a season pass. But if you don't, and have little money, yet don't mind some rides being down, this week is perfect for you. Such as bringing anything that says "92.5 FM The Fox" to get you in for $9.25. Most of all, I am telling you all that a couple of favorites may not be open. But then again, that's common at other parks as well.

Oh, and I dont know what day you went, but double ride Tues ended 2 weeks ago.

Thank God that is over.

For those of you planning a later trip, most of September is booked with company picnics, so be careful which weekend you attend.

Either go now, this weekend, or sometime in October.

PS. I don't mind if you pass this along to the park, although I already handwrote my bad experience at GR that night.

So you get wet on TR:TR now?

I imagine you have to pay for the lockers at TR?
Can you take on a camera case (or hip pouch) attached to your belt?

Yeah REO and Styx have been touring a lot together since 2000 I think. Someone's gotta open up.
BTW, I'm a Flock of Seagulls fan. :) "They're" (singer is only orig. member) still touring!

maybe they can pass along a little advice for the sister park PKD....let us SNAP the flyers.....sure, it's a little more maintenance, but it's WORTH it.....people will stand around just to watch, and the "family" riders can still get a "family" ride if they want one.....but the whole vibe around flyers is more *excited*, like at PKI, when there's snapping going on...:)

The people at PKI know I've been to a Village People concert!?!?

in perfect Nelson Muntz (sp?) voice....."ah-hah....."
1. You may get a little wet on Tomb Raider
2. You can bring the pouch with you, I think, since they have bins to place your stuff before you ride. Mainly since people aren't using the lockers (some don't see them, others just don't want to.)

"What?" is what they say to a young person who's been to a Styx Concert.

"Ha!-Haw!" is what they say to anyone who's been to a Village People concert.

Uhh buddy, they do let you snap the flyers so I don't know what your talking about. You are encouraged to use the lockers, but you can put your camera in the bin, most people have the sommon scence not to steal things there.

TN....the guy specifically said "No Bumping" at PKD...I tried to "misunderstand" what he meant, but at the first real "hint" that I was intending to snap, he re-iterated his desire that I "cease and desist".....too much fun I guess.....
Ohhh I misread your post sorry about that, I'm sure they will get the hint that it's boring without snapping.
