Preservation Efforts - help needed!

Hello fellow Coasterbuzzers!

I'm trying to compile a list of specific ongoing preservation efforts in the US. I know of ACE's Preservation Fund but that is a general fund benefiting various efforts. I'm looking for efforts not only to preserve/rebuild coasters but for parks and rides as well. I wrote to Matt Crowther, the ACE Preservation Director, for help about 2 weeks ago but he has yet to reply. Can anyone add to the list below? Thanks!

Little A-Merrick-A [plans to rebuild the Lincoln Park Comet]

Leap-the-Dips Foundation

Conneaut Blue Streak Foundation

Save Whalom Park

I can't think of any ones other than those that are "on going." Are you looking for others that have been completed as well?

If the shoe fits, find another one.

How can you possibly forget to add Robland's efforts to save the PNE coaster?!!??!

Not sure about Zippin Pippin, but I *thought* there was some sort of "organized" efforts on behalf of that classic (which I have yet to ride).

bill, who REALLY wants to save The Intimidator, and certainly wouldn't mind putting the used set of flying swings *somewhere* near by....;)

Ravenguy98 - I'm only looking for on-going efforts, thanks.

'Gator - I haven't heard anything about the Pippin, but I'll look into it.

Thanks!

I am almost posative that there is a Zippin Pippin fund and that the Pippin Mania ACE Southeast Regional event held on August 3rd was to help the fund. You might try Robert Ulrich or Chris Godsey for more info or LibertyLand.

I am wondering if anything is being done for the Williams Grove Cyclone.

Chuck, who is pleased to see them getting new rides there, but hears the coaster is in deplorable condition.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

How about Chippewa Lake Park in Medina, Ohio. The website address is: http://www.chippewalakepark.com/
They are hoping to acquire and preserve what's left of the Park....

'Moosh' . You can scratch Little-A-Merrick-A off of that list. I spoke with Darrell when I was at the park and he stated that saving the existing structure of the Lincoln Park Comet wasnt worth it. He surveyed the ride and it was his belief that it was to far gone to be saved.

He did however mention that in the future he might construct a replica of it. Its good that he has the NAD trains from the ride and some mechanical parts from the woodie at Whalom Park.

Chitown,

I got the same info from Darrell in June. BTW, the mechanical parts he has include the lift chain and motors from Whalom.

It's not a coaster but, the Rocky Springs Carousel has an ongoing (and hopeful, the last I heard) preservation project. Here's a story about it:

...*thought* there was something in ACE newsletter along those lines about Lincoln Park's Comet, but those NAD trains are news to me....amd welcome news at that. Pretty sure there's some sort of *Carousel Association* dedicated to preservation and restoration. Doesn't the Loeff carousel at SCBB even have some sort of historical designation?

And I'm sure you're already aware of te dark-rides folks....

Somewhat related to this... has anyone heard what is going on at Whalom Park? Have they had any luck, or is it a lost cause?

Matthew, is this list going to be published or posted anywhere? I know I would be interested in reading it if it is.

Jim - let's just say its for a project I'm working on. More will be explained a later date.

Moosh - who hates it when people say "more will be explained at a later date" ;-)

Not a problem, I will just wait patiently.

P.S. are you done now? :)

P.P.S. how about now? :)

The Zippin Pippin rehab fund will be making official announcements around the first of the year. Join the "Pippin Club" and get a piece of coaster history. Also admittance to special events at the park in 2003 Including "Pippin Mania" :)
Well, if you're interested in some classic steel, there is some sort of "Save the Whizzer" orginization (I remember seeing their website somewhere), but I'm not sure if they actually do anything. Plus, the coaster's pretty secure for at least the immediate future, I would imagine.
