Premier Coasters

What do you guys (and girls) think of the Premier Bowl Coasters?  (The FoFs, JJ, Poltergeist)  I think that with the lapbars, they are a fantastic ride perfect for a pretty compact space.

I applaud Premier for taking the steps to insure that their rides are as best as they can be... they actually took the time to design and test those lapbars so that all their rides might be impoved.

Sadly, I rode Flight of Fear pre lapbars. :(

I did ride Speed: The Ride at the Sahara in Las Vegas this summer, though! :) I thought it was fantastic, and even with the OTSR's, there was no headbanging.

Also, the launch seemed much more intense than Flight of Fear.

According to Paramount PR folks, it was Paramount that insisted on the lap bar retrofit, not Premier.

Oh, I didn't know that. Well I just hate Premier now. ;)

Paramount may have been responsible for the retro-fit, but it sure has given Premier a MUCH better name in the enthusiast community...and for GOOD reason!  Stealing from another buzzer: FoF v1.0 needed an upgrade in a serious way...

B&R:TC is not a spaghetti-bowl, it's actually TWO shuttles, unlike Mr. Freeze.  JJ and Poltergeist are the two "outside" spaghetti-bowls...

I never understood the problem with the OTSRs on the Spaghetti bowls.  I love those coasters, and would ride 'em all day if you let me.  In Japan, there is a Premier called Mad Cobra with the greatest OTSR out there.  Very soft, and it almost 'grips' your head to keep you in place.  These were the rides that got my wife into rollercoasters, so I applaud them!  I have pics of the OTSRs if anybody is interested.  I don't think I have them posted on any site to reference you to, so just e-mail me.

The only way the OTSR models were comfortable was if you sat in the front seat of a car, the front most if possible, and stuck your head out. Otherwise it was not much fun. Now, you can freely look about and it totally changes the ride. I liked Flight of Fear before, and felt it was a good try. Now that the trains have been modified, it's easily one of my favorite rides.

Headbanging with OTSR's never really bothers me but I would like to experience FoF with lapbars.  It sounds awesome.

I totally agree... FoF was my first LIM coaster, and I'm glad I got to ride it with the lapbars.

It's interesting...Back in April, Flight of Fear opened with the new lap bars, and Paramount said nothing. All through the season, Paramount never said a word about it, Premier never said a word about it. Amusement Today did a story about the retrofit, but with no comments from either Paramount or from Premier. At IAAPA, Premier was awarded "best new technology" or something like that for the new lap bars, but they still said nothing about it.
The first time I saw any "official" comment on it at all was in the 12/24/2001 issue of Amusement Business, in which Premier finally owns up to having done the retrofit, allegedly at the request of Paramount.
Very strange. But I do think the retrofit has been an almost unqualified success! I just wish they'd done it six years ago!

RideMan, when we rode FoF v2.0 at CoasterCamp, we mentioned to Jeff S. what a vast improvement it was. His response was typically....vague.  The guy does his job well.  Some of the people attending seemed to know that the retro-fit  was extending to other Premier rides...it certainly did a LOT to improve them, and wasn't an unforeseeable move.  The riding posture Jeff is referring to is what we have termed "turtling", and works pretty well if you are tall on stand-ups as well...gets your head away from those *&^* OTSR's.

Premier really was good at designing those lap bars though there not so comfortable they make the ride a 1000x better.
I just hope we get the lap bars for Joker's Jinx at SFA this year.  The lap bars greatly improved FOF and absolutely transformed Robin: TC.
As far as I can tell it's already a done deal for SFA  adding lapbars for Joker's Jinx,I can hardly wait till April to ride it without those "pain in the head" otsr's.
