Knoebels, Elysburg, Pennsylvania, USA
^My guess would be "they're getting ready to do end-of-season maintenance anyway". or at least, if it was my park, that would likely be my reasoning...

Yeah, I assume that allowing it every single day would take it's toll, and Knoebels has quite the group of snappers living nearby. They didn't allow it during regular hours, but after park hours, during PPP, so you got 4 hours of snapping.
Turning the lights out was cool. I still can't snap.

I wonder why it's ok to go all-out on the Flyers during PPP, but not any other time.
Personally, I think it has more to do with the GP than any safety/parts/maintenance issue. Saturday night as I was leaving the ride there was a lady who felt the need to scold me by saying how "I was breaking the ride". I try to fly softer when I notice young kids on the ride.
So you DO have a screen name afterall...
Told ya Bubba was here!
Well I guess I met alfundo finally without even realizing it. We talked about this in line on Sunday, but I had no idea who I was talking to.
Knoebels allowed violent snapping for years without any problems it seemed. But I too was "scolded" by another guest Saturday night during the mayhem. No one cared when it was the norm, but now that it's not the norm, people get worried. I figured it was due to maintenance. They seem to have to replace the motor about every season or two.

They may have let people go during the evening session because they knew they had a queue full of snappers. During the afternoon, one op slowed the ride down because a few people were snapping.
I heard a few things over the summer while waiting in line that lead me to think that more and more people don't "get" snapping. One kid saw some people snapping and remarked "look, those people don't even know how to drive these things." Another time, a woman saw someone snapping and got all upset about it. Someone next to her in line explained that the person did it deliberately, and she said "well I don't want anybody doing that while I'm on the ride." Maybe some people have complained about it, which would be a shame because I don't see any inherent safety issue in it.
It's Knoebels - I tend to think it's more about the ride maintenance crews than the guests complaining. I could be wrong. But when you have THE people in the industry who know how to care for rides, you tend to listen to what they say....

I rode Grand National with a funnel cake and nobody told me?
:)
Love the TR, Clint - glad you finally made it to PPP :)
So I guess that leaves two newbies for PPP '11....Jimvy and the Gonch...
*I'd suggest a radio show based on Dingo and the Baby...but not even satellites can provide coverage in those mountains... ;)

Who knows? The degree of strictness (if that's a word) seems to vary from op to op, and even sometimes from week to week. Sometimes it's been tolerated, other times it hasn't. Even in the time it takes to navigate the whole queue, I've seen an op slow down the ride one cycle, while ignoring some snapping two or three cycles later.
Yeah, sometimes while I'm waiting, there will be kids snapping hard, then when I get on, the ride gets slowed down. I hardly ride the Flyers anymore on my frequent visits, because they just aren't fun when you can't fly them the way you know how. It's like a trim brake on a potentially awesome coaster.
