PowerDive @ SFGAm

Did Powerdive @ Six Flags Great America open up at all this year?  Everytime I have been there it has been closed. I am wondering if anyone knows why, because that section of the park really has nothing there anymore except for games and Roaring Rapids.  Does anyone think they are going to take out Cajun Cliffhanger and Powerdive next year for a new attraction?

It was open at the beginning of the year, I remember because I went on it. Rumor is they are replacing it with a Ferris Wheel.
This might sound stupid but what is Power Dive?

Power Dive is a Looping Starship. I hate it, the OTSR feels like a few cinder blocks sitting on your chest.

Yeah, I hate the ride. At least they should update it with a new version.
This is one of those rides that I always got nervous when boarding. I love going upside down but hanging upside down is something that always gave me the creeps. This ride re-defines the definition of "Being Stapled". You have an OTSR plus a huge lap bar that plants you into a still position. Not very comfortable. If they get rid of Power Dive, I probably wont miss it. A ferris wheel would fit perfectly into that spot.

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
Oh PLEASE bring in a wheel in place of it! What a great idea. It wouldn't be the same as the Sky Whirl, but it would really help the variety of rides overall. I agree that PD is MOST uncomfortable! I'd rather ride a Ring Of Fire for 5 hours. :)

About a Ferris Wheel they probally could  relocate the sky whirl next year and put it over there.  I think there would be enough space, and as far as I know its still sitting in the parking lot so maybe they are going to put it back up.

I guess I'm alone when I say that the Power Dive was one of my favorite rides!

There isn't a problem that can't be solved.

Suicide is NOT a solution!

Another strike against Power Dive is that the "looking straight down and pressing against your restraint" feeling is achieved on both V2 and Deja Vu, more prominently on the latter.
Accually, Bull Fan, I don't know about Deja Vu, but V2 is uncomparable to Power Dive's restraints. V2's OTSR stays in the same spot the entire ride, but on Power Dive, when you on your back, it pushes itself down even more than what you had it at, and doesn't let up the rest of the ride.

V2 on the vertical spire isn't uncomfortable at all, and I don't see how it could be. You're too busy laughing or screaming or staring at the water in disbelife or something, but on Power Dive, you're staring at the seats in front of you wish it was over.

The last time I remember power dive being open this summer was in July.  The next time I went there, a week later, they said it had broken down.
I like the power dive too, and I hope they don't replace it.  Its not the most comfortable ride, but its still alot of fun I think.  If they did get rid of Cajun Cliffhanger, Power dive and the Food stand, that would provide quite a bit of room for something big (even sky whirl).
Also, that area has alot of dead space.  Whenever I go to SFGAm, I never see the Burger Joint over by the orleans gazebo very busy, and the shop next to it doesn't seem to have any real merchandise, just everything in there is clearanced.  There are perpetually signs in the window that read, "Sale".  However, I think that maybe next year, Great America may take the year off, after two new rides in 2001, both which are not currently operating 100% (one, which for the past 2-3 weeks hasn't been operating at all) combined with a VERY slow economy. That's just my two cents.

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!
Is powerdive anything like Berzerker @PKD?If it is then they would be better off removing it.I rode Berzerker once and only once and it was the most uncomfortable ride I've ever been on in my life. Most people say it's the lap bar that hurts but they're wrong. The otsr on Berzerker hurts a whole lot more.
I have never, in my history of going to that park, seen that ride be operational more than maby once..

Ahhh the only joy I get from riding that ride is watching the newbies slam the OTSR on their chest. Ouch that is just pain...

Is this just like the Jet Scream @ PCW?
Funny thing is, in years and years of going to SFGAm, I've only been on Power Dive ONCE and that was just last year! Usually the line was too damn long for me to justify (especially with B:TR and Viper in the park). I usually *hate* the feeling of hanging upside down, but for some reason, I like looping starships (even though I've only ridden 3 of them). I wont cry if they take Power Dive out, but I'd hate to see a Ferris wheel there. Better to put in a Giant Frisbee or Afterburner. The ferris wheel could go back in county fair or hometown square.
