Power outage: Potential downtime

Power just went out, apparently under heavy A/C load in town, so there's a possibility that if it's out for an extended period of time, the backup power will run out.

Just warning you. ;)

I need to get a back up... but not for any computers. The other week we lost power for about two hours during a bad storm... high winds and heavy rains.

All the houses in our neighborhood have sump-pump systems to keep the ground water way from the foundations. With the heavy rains and no power, our pump did not run. For 1 1/2 hour the water in the sump-pump pit slowly rose. It eventually over flowed from the main pit and also backed up through a drain in the stroage part of the basement. Lucky for us, our neighbor arrived home and hooked up his generator for his pump and ours. We kept it from really over flowing, but not before we had about an inch of water in the storage area.

15 minutes after we hooked up the generator the power came back on.

Power was out for a little over two hours. The UPS lasted about 40 minutes, which I suppose isn't terrible considering that's two servers, the router and switch.

They were in Pittsburgh Sunday, I was at Hersheypark... it's the first KMFDM show I've missed since the Naive tour in 1991.
